The Planar has a very nice bokeh

Nice 3D feeling as well

Good as an all around lens

I was planning to sell it, but I changed my mind and bought a nice M2 instead. I think they'll be an awesome combo.

Wonderful composition. I keep looking at it. Thinking how that wave on the right is crucial to the balance I notice the gull, and then the bollard way left.

Thanks Thomas. I sold my Zeiss Ikon and Planar 50 to fund the Xpro1. I really like the fuji, but honestly miss the ZI and 50. Too bad I am not rich enough to afford both.

I've always liked the Zeiss optics better for color, but prefer Leica for B&W. One of the coolest rendering lenses I ever used was a 50 Planar for a Contarex Bullseye. I'll give one guess why I didn't keep it -- the camera was a beast -- but that lens was really good.

The Planar is now my only 50mm M-mount lens, so I think I'll be very active in this thread from now on

Here is it, on TX400, developed on Xtol 1:1

Helen, my friends are getting married and they invited me to shoot some wedding photos for them just for fun(here in Asia they do it before the wedding rather than during the wedding), there was no pressure since I know they already hired a professional to shoot a set for them earlier, it was fun but I don't think I will make a career out of it...

Shortly before a concert of John Adams' works, this man in the nearby coffeehouse was intensely conducting a silent conversation with himself. Perhaps an interior score--the gestures were conductor-like. I've seen him elsewhere in similar conversations, but he was dressed for the concert here. I love the great black hat, and the red braid harmonizing with the wall. Here are 2 of the 4 shots--it's the 45 Planar (G1) mounted on a Lumix G1 (sorry, I have no ZI, and no ZM Planar yet....)

Helen: you are becoming as fickle as Keith and Joe about falling in and out of love with lenses. At least you are somewhat true to a camera and a film.

no complaints has turned into much enthusiasm since I redid some scans myself

Untitled by redisburning, on Flickr

I guess this speaks to the need to do things yourself if you want them done right. Even though you lose so much at 1024, this rescan has loads more bite and dimensionality than I ever knew this negative contained. Technique extends beyond just taking the shot, and this is a lesson I am glad to learn.
