First in for a change ... avoided it last week because I had run out of bandwidth and was on dial up!



print44 ... great use of light and very good composition.




israel alanis ... I absolutely love this. Perfect composition and the tones are incredible.




Pete Chipman ... I really like the way this has been framed ... it works perfectly for me.




lynnb ... two by Lynn this week from me and probably my two absolute favorites for the week in what has been a very strong week IMO.

My picks for the week:

OurManInTangier, I don't know which is better, the suit or the hands, but it's both, the sum is greater than the parts for sure.





Darthfeeble, to my eye the twisted wire, fence, and vines puts the flowers in the context of their natural setting where they belong.





lynnb, this just gives me the sense that the rooster is just clowning around.





Keith, in full agreement with the comments about this.





RichW, I'll bet Admiral Nelson would have like to have a pair of laser eyes like that in his many battles.




2 from tasking:

The close crop with the hand it that position as though reaching for the pipe, perfect, to my eye it couldn't be better.




Love this one, my kind of winter shot, out the window warm and dry.





onur77, the backdrop of the, buildings, shrubs lining the course street, and the gentleman's hat and flared open long coat takes me into another dimension of time.

I missed last weeks so thought I'd do this weeks Picks before breakfast, yet still most of my Picks have already been picked and I'm hungry Oh well, here are some that caught my eye

Finguanzo - Very effective in many ways. I like the ever so slightly faded sense of stateliness that comes across via the shabby raincoat and gentleman's millenery. The rim of light around it is, as noted, a lovely touch but so too is the fact the ears, neck and collar are all placed beautifully on the dark forms of the people infront. There is a play of light here that flows brilliantly throughout.



Onur77 - I particularly agree with Lynn's comments about the leading lines and strong figure outline. Also the 'leading tones' (for want of a proper phrase) i.e. the black hat followed by white hair followed by black mac followed by white hands adds to the impact.

Creepy too that I'm sure the guy is Max Von Sydow's 'Father Merrin'



hteasley - Really good vision to see this and I love the tonal similarities throughout.





Rogrund - Great light, gentle tones, a serendipitous breeze and a moment of calm beauty captured forever



Taskoni - Great composition using the trees and road at the top to let everything else fall into, perfect, position. The inevitable Lowry like figures against the snow, the cluster of parked cars and scratched looking surface are all wonderful. Love it.



Luiman - A highly graphic composition and exposure using highlight, shadow and lines to move the eye around the image. I like this kind of image as its honest, its all about the construction and when its done well its extremely rewarding to look at



Martini - I hope this is watermarked, copyrighted and in some manner trackable as it will appeal to so many bands for an album cover...they may even steal the title too

"Whoa! Very cool"....indeed.




Pete Chipman - Exposure and composition work harmoniously. ( I was obviously waffling less than usual when I wrote this but its a super picture and deserves more praise and less waffle!)



Some excellent photography this week and I've already seen images here that I missed during the week so I'll be tracking some down later tonight. Plus, tj01 and the two Richards, thank you very much for including one of my pictures.

Such a strong week this week. So many wonderful images.

Pictures I liked a lot this past week:

Kiev Ilegelac - Alfama. We've just walked in on a slice of life. I like how the characters are in mid-action - and the dog makes it


collum - Jake. I like the direct gaze, expression and lovely tonality in this fine portrait


print44 - Moseley Bog 6x9. Beautiful light, and depth to this lovely scene.


Chris Bail - Joshua. I liked this very well executed portrait for the way it brought out the warmth, humour and intellect in the subject.


OurManInTangier - His Serene Highness. That says it all. This cat sits on a higher plane to all that hustling human business around it.

OurManInTangier - Whirling Dervishes. Of course I liked the movement, but also the composition, and that one of the faces is discernible. Fantastic!


semrich - ****. Great catch and timing, and a little surreal.


Robklurfield - A warning to the Grim Reaper. This made me laugh! And very well captured and rendered.


doomster - blacksmith. I like the tonal emphasis placed on the smithy's hands, tools and face.


LIIca - kids at play. I liked this for its content and composition, and good tonal control.

StefanJozef - Millennium Bridge. I liked the graphic power and simplicity of this high contrast shot.


sojournerphoto - Buttermere. Beautifully rendered, with subtle tones


taskoni - Girl. I thought the femininity and emotion in this young woman's gaze really stood out. The image's softness and tonality added to the effect.


Keith - Father and child #2. Hard to pick a favourite from this excellent series. The difficult light added to the slightly other worldly, almost biblical feel.


Ezzie - Field of blue (colour). Beautiful colour and light. Dreamy. This reminded me of Tarkovsky's (Tarkovskij's) polaroids.


onur77 - Walking in the past. Graphically strong, a 'classic' image.


hteasley - Beach. I found it very pleasing to look into this photo, at this pattern, with its rendering of fine detail and the subtle tonality.
