The firmware update Ver.1.21 form ver1.20 incorporates the following issues:
When checking focus point by pushing AE-L/AF-L button in MF mode, following phenomena can be observed in relation to focus area settings. These phenomena are improved.
1.When the focus area is set to bottom right end position, the camera may hang up.
2.Even when the focus area is set to other area than above, focus may be hard to be established.

Seems to correct some of the odd behavior reported in MF mode with the 1.20 update. Awesome that fuji is continually improving the x100!

You know, I am trying to think if I have seen another digital camera that has so many firmware updates in such a sort time since it's intro. I think Fuji should be applauded for keeping on top of things and trying to give it's customers the best possible product.

but can't you also say that most other camera companies haven't made such oddball decisions as Fuji has with its cameras and therefore do not require as many firmware updates? most of the firmware has been to fix things and not to improve functionality (including "fixing" the AF speed).

I've always updated as and when the firmware came out but having been out this weekend for the first time since the 1.20 I've noticed a number of things are out of whack. I'm considering a reset to hopefully go back to the previous update.

Things I (and others) have noticed;
Macro will not give a sharp result.
Shots don't look as clean as they were previously, more noise.
The dof scale is out of whack and does not show correctly.
Auto ISO no longer works and wont give me the shutter speed limit I set.

Well, I am thinking Fuji is doing a lot better than Leica with the intro of the M8 as far as being quick on the fixes. In both cases though these were the first cameras in a new series so I guess they are usually more finicky than follow on camera in the same series. Goes with breaking new ground.

I understand that it's possible to go back to the previous update, but there should be no need now... version 1.21 is out already today, to correct the cock-ups in version 1.20. I believe that all (or most) of your observations have been addressed, though I can't vouch for this.

Let's hope that they've got it right this time... it's such a superb camera, but their handling of firmware matters does seem to be a bit of a shambles.

Thans tbhv55 for your reply. Obviously I would hope that you're right in regard to the version 1.21 putting all these things right but as yet I haven't read confirmation of this. Anyone out there know for sure?

@kuvvy... unfortunately, I still haven't had a chance to test it for myself, but the early comments from users on fujix-forum seem to be favourable.

For me, the main thing still missing is the ability to switch on/off the Auto ISO using the Fn button (or the re-assigned Raw button). If they were to implement this, then I reckon that I'd be happy enough, even if they did no more firmware updates...

But you could argue that Fuji (and other camera makers for that matter) should put a totally finished product on the market. It seems like the first buyers of any product nowadays are the ones that do the final test driving. I'd rather have that done by the engineers at the factory and wait a little bit longer for a camera to hit the shelves at my dealer.

Hard to argue your point about a product ideally being perfect at introduction but how many are. Most if not all the digital cameras I have owned have had updates same as with my computer programs. I don't think that should diminish the praise Fuji is due for making a huge effort to satisfy it's customers.

Well, Fuji is making cameras that no one else is making. There are no other cameras of its kind.

Awesome...I love that Fuji is continuing updates and fixes long after launch, and even after the XP1 has launched. It does inspire confidence in any future Fuji purchases.

I'm getting completely inconsistent exposures after the update... sometimes the same scene will come out overexposed or underexposed, i was shooting at daytime in aperture priority and autoiso, using average exposure evaluation. before the firmware update i had never faced that kind of issue major bummer! hope it's fixed in the next firmware, my fear is to be facing a sticky aperture blade issue here...
