X100 UNDERexposure fault

This evening for some reason my camera would not shift from 1/4000s to A for aperture priority. 1/4000s was persistent and M for manual was showing on the LCD. This went on for some time. Maybe some grit under the shutter speed dial? It works most of the time now. Haven't dropped it for months, and certainly no moisture near it. Lately it's always in the never-ready case. Although it is not meant to be capable of this, I have some images whose exif data records 1/4000s at f2 with underexposure probably consistent with that.

Not much we can really help you with - sounds like a one off fault with the camera. Probably best just to send it in to fujifilm!

Hi,

This sounds like the same problem a lot of people are having, including me. Select different aperture values and check if the aperture is closing appropriately. For me it seemed to be stuck to f2 most of the time.

I called up fujifilm, they said they would need 3 weeks to fix it and I needed to send the camera to them. I then took it back to the shop where I bought it and they replaced it. It is apparently a manufacturing fault.

The aperture works. It's the shutter speed selector that was malfunctioning. It hasn't done it at all today. And it first happened without me switching to Aperture priority. It was that the selected A no longer made the appropriate contact, and 1/4000s, the adjacent selection was activated. If it happens again I will take the camera back to the store.

Got the camera back. Disassembled and the lens replaced! I guess the disassembly got rid of any dust or muck that was interfering with the selector switch and they wanted to save themselves and me from a quick return with the aperture sticking problem.

This happened again. After a longer time away it's back with a completely new top cover and viewfinder assembly etc. The accompanying Fuji document is as cryptic as the first, ending with an apology for the inconvenience of being without the camera.

It felt familiar in the hand, but at first I feared that I had forgotten how to work it. I was going to open my text tile of helpful setting options culled from RFF last year, but then I just decided to work my way through the menus. Everything was back to factory defaults.

Auto ISO, max 1600, min shutter 1/60
Corrected focus frame ON
AE/AF lock: SWITCH ON
AE/AF lock: AF only
