Robvinc,
This is an image I wish I could have shot on my trip to Japan in October. I loved the design of eateries in Japan, and the curtains in front, forget the name. One question I would have asked if I had some Japanese (or more time and a translator) was where restaurants get those and how they choose what they say or represent, other than obvious ones like fish at fish restaurants...I'm kinda weird like that. I'd rather visit a shop where they make those curtains than some big castle. Though the big castle in Hikone was pretty cool.

cheers

Dear dreilly,

there is a whoile street in Tokyo, called Kappabashi-dori, which is bascially the shop were you can get everything to setup a proper kitchen or restaurant.

Man, missed that on my all-too-brief zip through Tokyo. I'll note it for next time, exactly the weird kind of thing I'd be totally into! I spent half a day once going up and down a street in Erzerum, Turkey, watching tinsmiths tinning the inside of copper pots.

Nice shots as usual.

I shot this last night. Was pushing the R-D1 in very lowlight conditions. Leica 50mm Summilux, pre-asph. This one kinda came out to me, "jesus"-like (no religious offense at all by that observation). I also missed the focus a bit hitting the no smoking sign instead of his eyes

I got the patent on [email protected] photo's around here!

I agree with Joe, nothing wrong with those shots.
Like the first one especially.

Cagliostro! Fantastic colors, but the composition of the B/W photos appeal a little more to me personally.

I'm guessing the two of you have yet to see anything I've ever posted. If crappy photography were an Olympic event I'd medal everytime.

I'm in agreement with Joe and Mr_Flibble, nothing at all wrong with your images paradoxbox, truth be told I quite enjoy the second one.

i'm sure you can get the same look using Zeiss lens wide open with the 5D. The images here are amazing because ppl who own rd1 love it so much and would go out look for opportunities to maximize its potential. Or i'm just talking from my own experience. I'm not sure if i see things differently with a rangefinder camera but i do learn a lot in a short amount of time. perhaps share one of mine:

Four years ago, I was about to pull the trigger on a 5D, when I discovered the existence of the R-D1. My immediate, gut reaction was "oh, yes -- must have that."

Do it, that's exactly what I traded for one. My 5Dc had sat unused on the shelf for a couple months so off it went.

Kinda helps my gf has a 5Dc I can use whenever I want though!

That's true.

I had lent my X100 to my gf and found myself trying to take product shots for ebay with my R-D1s, scale focus 25mm VC Skopar and I-61 L/D a few nights ago!
