How to use QuadTone RIP with Ubuntu 11.10?

Hi,

my main workstation is a Mac Mini on Snow Leopard and for space-related reasons I cannot get it parked close enough to my (quite big) Epson R2400 printer. I want to be able to print A4-sized prints on the printer, using QuadTone RIP.

Anybody know of a way to use that set of printer drivers with Ubuntu 11.10, which runs on my netbook? I just need to be able to print, all editing will be done on the Mac Mini.

unless vendor provide Linux drivers, you could try virtualization, vmware for instance ? printer connectivity might be challenging from virtualized OS X, but good luck

As I recall, a USB cable can be used at 12 feet without problems, sometimes longer. It can then be extended by a powered USB hub. You might also wish to look into wireless USB. Hopefully others will have other solutions, and maybe better/easier ones.

Perhaps more complicated than a longer USB cable you could try to use the netbook to make the printer available over your home network if you have one and then just print from the Mac.

QTR only runs off a hardwire USB connection.
