Movies / Cameras in the Movies / TV / Media If you are a photographer, it's difficult not to appreciate movies too. In this forum you can discuss movies, as well as the cameras used in them. What camera used in what film / TV show etc has long been a topic of discussion at RFF. Whether the Exakta and 400mm Kilfitt lens in Hitchcock's Rear Window or the Nikons in Eastwood's Bridges of Madison County, cameras are tools which reflect the time and technology of the film.

Photographic brand placement in Ghost In The Shell

The 1990's/2000's anime series "Ghost in the Shell" (3 movies, 2+ TV seasons) is about a specialized secret police counterterrorism unit operating in a futuristic Japan in the 2040's, with many of the characters having cyborg body parts, etc.

In several different scenes across different episodes, current optics/camera brands can be seen on devices used by the characters, such as a tiny "Carl Zeiss" on the iris of the main character's cyborg eyes, and a separate scene where a character uses a set of binoculars labeled "Mamiya".

Just thought this was interesting, later I can add links to screenshots.

There's a number of anime I've seen that obviously had camera geeks on staff (or at least were very well-researched). Every so often you'll see a Nikon F2, an M, a Rolleiflex (especially popular these days), etc.

It is cool; we've noted that here before. I can completely believe that Carl Zeiss could/will develop bionic eye technology.

There's another thread here containing GiTS discussion - there was/is(?) a member here whose screen name was Ghost in the Shell - he is/was an aspiring anime artist.

I think they were inspired by the "Zeiss Ikon" bionic eyes in William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy, starting with "Neuromancer" in 1984...
