Thinking of the new Sony NEX 5, but.......

Should I sell my less than 1000 actuation NEX 3 or keep it as a backup? (I lean on keeping it)
I really like the Auto ISO and that 100-3200 sure sounds sweet on the new 5.

what lenses are you using?

if you use any wider M-mounts, I would say sell the nex-3, as new gen is much better.

I would hold off until Sony addresses the "video clicking issue". Assuming they will.

I'm also thinking of waiting to see a review of the 7. Sure it will be very good but the initial reports seem to indicate high-ISO might not be as good as the 5N. Early days yet.

The NEX 7 looks like a sweet camera with that Zeiss! I just hope this camera works well with my M mount glass! That is the only issue (ISO scares me a little. If I can set the Megapixel's down to get better high ISO that would be great!

I'm a bit concerned with the over-concern about high ISO. With film, 3200 looks either awful or artsy depending on your taste. Digital, even from the NEX line is leaps and bounds better at 3200 and under. Why fret the high ISO, does anyone really use 6400 or 12.8 gagillion ISO on a regular basis anyway?

To the OP, keep it. with all the releases coming, it won't be worth the loss - is worth more in your camera bag, if only a backup.

Initial reports are pegging the high iso for 5n one stop better at around 3200. I normally do not go any higher than 800 with an occasional use of 1600. Going as high as 3200 is pretty rare for me.

The nex 7 looks pretty good right now for me.

I plan to mainly use it with old manual lenses anyway, so faster lenses in the f1.4 or 1.2 range are going to be available for me...

If anyone has their Panasonic G1 from a couple of years ago - the "Camera of the Year" and source of many of my portfolio images - the bodies are selling for under $200. That's for a fully featured camera capable of professional quality results (in my eyes). Granted it's really only good to ISO 400-800 rather than 1600-3200 but you get the point - these digicams really lose value quickly.

In 2013 I'll be picking up your old Fuji X100 for $450 to give it a whirl ;-) 2014 would be fine time to buy the NEX-7.

Probably will be able to get a Leica S2 body for $5000 in 2015, that's life. The lenses will still cost mint, I bet they'll last through the S3 and S4 and the least expensive 70/2.5 is still over $5K.

If you could just calm your need to have the latest and try to live two years behind the times, then the "new" old cameras are just as big an improvement!

Another good reason the sell the body, while it is worth 280 or so.

I would not have given up a year with nex-5 to save a few hundred, myself.

Just got the 5N. First impression, much more sturdy than mu 3. Much higher IQ. LCD screen easy to read even in bright sunshine. Manual focus is a dream with out using manual assist or focus peaking. Now should I keep it or send it back and wait for the 7. Oh but it looks so fine with my black CV 35/1.4.

Of course it is dark, I shot it at f11, 1/250 at 100 ISO. That beauty was that it was very very bright sunshine and it handled it without blowing out highlights and blackening the shade. I was impressed. What does tiny mean?
