Tom Abrahamsson of RapidWinder.com It is almost never that an inventor improves on a Leica product so that it is better than the original Leica product. Tom holds that distinction with his RapidWinder for Leica M rangefinders -- a bottom mounting baseplate trigger advance. In addition Tom manufacturers other Leica accessories such as his very popular Soft Release and MiniSoftRelease shutter releases. Tom is well known as one of the true Leica rangefinder experts, even by Leica. IMPORTANT READ THIS: CWE Forum hosts have moderation powers within their forum. MP Self Timer Help

Hi Tom! Hope all is well.

Working on some set-up photos that require a self timer for
my self timerless MP (I need 15 seconds minimum).

Searching around I'm reading that the old LTM external
timer (APDOO/14003) would work if you also had the release
adapter (OZTNO/14088).

Before I begin scrounging around for these items, does
anyone have first hand knowledge/experience with this set-up??

OR...a specific aftermarket set up that would actually work??

Thanks

Oddly enough, I ran into this problem last week with my M7, when we had our son's birthday party. No way to take family pictures without a self timer. I had to resort to my Nikon F3 instead of the Leica.

There are third party self-timer makers. I had one by Knirps. I think Kopil also used to make them. They are relatively inexpensive on ebay. They thread into the cable release socket on the shutter release.

Thanks Robert, so far the aftermarket one I tried (Alpex) didn't work (pin extended too far into the center of shutter. I'll look into Kopil, guess it's a question of getting the right one.

Also consider a long shutter release - the one with the rubber ball (step on it when you want to release the shutter). Some of the after market releases do in fact protrude too deep - but I think the Kobil has some kind of adjustment to shorten the "throw".

Thanks Tom! Had not thought about the long release, will also try a Kobil, several on "GleeBay" at the moment. ;-)
