Tom Abrahamsson of RapidWinder.com It is almost never that an inventor improves on a Leica product so that it is better than the original Leica product. Tom holds that distinction with his RapidWinder for Leica M rangefinders -- a bottom mounting baseplate trigger advance. In addition Tom manufacturers other Leica accessories such as his very popular Soft Release and MiniSoftRelease shutter releases. Tom is well known as one of the true Leica rangefinder experts, even by Leica. IMPORTANT READ THIS: CWE Forum hosts have moderation powers within their forum. Y&Y Softie on a Rolleiflex

I have a Y&Y Softie, and since it arrived I've been triggering my M4 in my bag far too much. I decided to move it onto my Rolleiflex 3.5F. It seems my Rolleiflex fires the shutter fine without the softie, but once the softie is on it won't fire.

What am I missing here?

The Y&Y softie is a "classic" - larger diameter than the mini. On Rolleiflexes it catches the edge of the lensmount/focussing plate and cant be pressed down enough to trigger the shutter. The mini works well on the Rollei's though - but not available as a Y&Y.
As for triggering in the bag - I always leave it uncocked when it goes into the bag and when I pull it out I automatically advance. The thumb naturally goes "under" the lever anyway. Even in pre-Softie days I did this as there is nothing worse pulling out a body and trying to shoot - and finding out it is not cocked. Just becomes a habit after a while.

I love the mini softie on my Rolleiflexes. The green even matches the FW perfectly.

Thanks both. Somehow I missed the response, and because I went on holiday, I forgot I'd asked the question
