Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history!

Summilux pre-ASPH on the M9????

Please could anybody show portraits taken with the Summilux 50 pre-Asph wide open (1.4)? I would like to compare it with the results of the Nokton 1.1/50 @ 1.4. Thank you so much.

I've heard that some pre-ASPH 35mm Summilux lenses will not mount on the M9 due to the rear shroud hitting part of the camera. Am not sure what serial number range is involved. Apparently you can have the lens modified to make it work by milling off a small amount of metal.

I've posted about this before, see message #3 in this link and the follow ups...> http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...35#post1405035

Has anyone here had this done to their lens or do you have more information on the problem?

Glenn

I can play here. I have the 50 Lux II and the best use of this lens is for portraits. I have several landscapes taken with it but portraits just come out beautifully with this lens. Skin tones are rendered perfectly and the lens isn't bitingly sharp like most of the more modern glass. I was considering getting the 50 Lux ASPH (actually did order it) but decided against the ASPH as the Lux II does exactly what I want. I have other lenses to use when I want to stop down for extreme sharpness

First four wide open, last couple stopped down

Thank you. It seems to be a good lens for the M9.
