Quesebede says it is. Surely this won't be the case with the production model?

"the shutter speed is limited to values between 1 / 30 and 1 / 1000 second in Aperture Priority modes."
-- that's what he seems to suggest. but hopefully this is not going to be the case in actual shipped cameras

I find this very, very laughable if it will be the case even on the production models.

That would be new info, but I don't think it's (completely) true.
From what I understand it's 1/1000 limited at f2. If i remember correctly, I read that at f/5.6 you get 1/4000.
It all has to do with the distance the leaf shutter needs to travel.

Remember it has a built in ND filter...

The ND filter is fine if you are shooting wide open all the time, but would be a pain if you are varying apertures frequently. But leaf shutters are limited by physics.

My M6 only goes to 1/1000 and it's a pretty good camera.

Leaf shutter so I'm not surprised. To be honest, the 1/1000th flash sync, silent shutter, built in ND filter make it a null point. I'd rather have the restriction and those features than no restriction, but none of those features.
Lettuce be cereal though - the film M's have 1/1000th top shutter, hexar AF only went to 1/500th...

Ahhh, that makes perfect sense! Perhaps Quesebede didn't try Av at small apertures.
If this is true, I don't see it as any real limitation.

We love everything that is retro about this camera, except its retro mechanical limitations. I guess that is the paradox of modern day photography and life in general.

Hexar was actually 1/250th... Even worse.

Oh yeah, Ouch....
I remember I was really close to buying one once, but couldn't get over that 1/250th top speed...

My solution on my Hexar AF...3 stop ND filter. Never had a problem. Same thing with the X100. And the X100 is even better as the ND filter is built in!

It seems there is an option to activate/de-activate the X100 3X ND filter using a Fn button near the shutter release.

wow, wide open is where I like to have 1/4000 or even 1/8000 (on the M8 original).
Is the ND filter an actual glass filter that moves in or out, or a virtual filter that reduces sensor gain?

Thanks for posting this - definitely a little detail to geek out over.
I guess this means that w can use f/2 with an effective 1/8000 shutter speed, which allows a one stop wider aperture than, say, the GF1 with 40mm. With the 23mm vs 20mm lens it means we can achieve modestly, but not massively, more shallow DOF than the Panasonic.
It's a strange world, in that I get massively more frustrated by the 1/4000 shutter speed limitations on the GF1 than the 1/250 on the Hexar - it's more a function of the time spent adjusting the aperture with the thumb wheel.

Shutter speed (with mechanical shutter) - (P mode) 1/4 sec. to 1/4000* sec., (All other modes) 30 sec. to 1/4000* sec.
*1/4000sec at F8 or smaller aperture
