Hexar AF focus window tests
Another thread got me interested in seeing whether the actual distances shown in the HAF's lens window actually match the distance to the object.
I used an ultrasonic measuring device, with laser indicator, and a textured dresser for the subject to focus on.
With my silver hexar which has the silent mode programmed, but I'm not sure about other features (see below) the distance for 0.6m (nearest focus) is slightly to the right of the center focus mark. At exactly 1.5m and 3.0m the focus lens 1.5 and 3.0 marks are slightly to the left of the center mark, between the IR mark and the center.
My black Hexar AF lens markings line up fairly close to center at .6, 1.5, and 3.0m.
Since the silver one was getting the 1.5 and 3.0 markings near the IR mark, I pulled out the manual to check if it happened to be in 750nm or 850nm IR mode, but apparently you need film in the camera to test this, or my silver HAF doesn't have the IR programmed in yet. For IR mode (if programmed in), you set the power dial to "A", hold Select until ISO shows up, and use the "< or down" button until "---" shows for ISO, then select 750 or 850 with MF button.
What an interesting camera! Gives me a nice film project with the kids for next weekend.
If you have a HAF, do your lens markings match at 0.6, 1.5, and 3.0m ? and more importantly, focusing accurately at those distances on film?
Do other users find that you actually need film in the camera to get to the IR 750/850 modes?
