Roger Hicks is a well known photographic writer, author of The Rangefinder Book, over three dozen other photographic books, and a frequent contributor to Shutterbug and Amateur Photographer. Summicron-M 90mm f/2

I have had two of these and loved them but more I suspect for the engineering and solid feel than the actual results.

My findings were:
1. They were great for high-speed black and white work and had that sometimes indefinable Leica air.
2. They disappointed in colour compared with other Leica lenses that I used at the time (21/2.8 Elmarit, 35/2 Summicron, 35/1.4 Summilux, 50/2 Summicron). NB. I'm talking pre-aspherical with all of these.

Anybody (e.g. Roger) find the same, or more interestingly, find the opposite? I feel a bit sorry that to get the modern lens which physically resembles the pre-ASPH Summicron I'd need to spend over twice as much. Still, I have the Elmarit-M 90/2.8 and that is a very good lens - it's just I need speed!

Best wishes,
Tom
