Olympus XA models - strange discovery

The tripod hole on an XA and XA 2 (and I suppose the others too, but I only own these two types) is right next to the battery hatch. I've just discovered, by one of those odd chances, that if you screw a tripod on too tight, the camera won't work - the battery life indicator doesn't respond. Slackening the tripod ever so slghltly fixes the problem. Strange, eh?

That may be behavior that's common only to your camera. I kinda doubt if all XAs do it. How tight is tight? I've seen XAs where the tripod socket has been stripped out (beyond repair). John
