He can rebuild all the Fuji MF cameras from the ground up, or any part you like. He completely rebuilt a GS645 (the folder) which had a lot of problems and was jammed. With a new bellows, his reinforced shutter mechanism, rebuilding the rangefinder and fixing other issues... The total bill came to $240. He's done three Fuji's for me. He previously did a bellows and the shutter linkage mod on another GS645 folder for $140. However, don't quote me on prices. He is fair, but get your own quote from him direct.

Franks an easy guy to work with, but you have to generate the communications, and he's very timely, unless parts are an issue. Don't rely on eMail... use the phone. He has an additional repair person or two. He also has a good working relationship with Fuji on parts.

Nice piece of information. My Fuji GS645S has a couple of minor problems [the rubber 'bumper' is slightly loose, and the coating on rear element of the lens seems to be turning to dust] and at some point I'd like to get both fixed. [No rush as it still works and takes good pictures]

Frank fixed my GS645S too... replaced broken plastic parts in the lens mount, calibrated the meter, lubed a sticky RF pivoting part, etc. Very reasonable rates, and pretty fast.

I also, on recommendation of RFF members, used Frank Marshman's services to fix up my GS645. Cost me a pretty penny as bellows replacement was required as well as some rangefinder and shutter repair, but it works smoothly now and I got one of my favorite family pictures out of it.

can meter be calibrated for Fuji GS series?

I seriously doubt that there are many GS645 folders that are still running on the original bellows without light leaks. The light leaks on these bellows are not obvious on inspection. The bellows becomes porous to light on all the folds. A GS645 that has been in the closet for years may be light tight for a few rolls. Fuji made a poor decision on the original bellows material, which is the biggest reason production stopped after about a year.

The second biggest is damaging the shutter linkage by closing the camera without setting focus to infinity and cocking the shutter. Frank's rebuild on these camera's usually strengthens the shutter linkage, but does not preclude the necessity to set the lens B4 closing the camera.

Frank and other repair facilities use better bellows material than originally used by Fujica. I know that Frank buys his bellows a half dozen at a time.

If a GS645 does not have documentation of a bellows replacement in it's history, I would never pay very much for it. The history on the original bellows is well documented.

I agree that the folders (75mm) all need new bellows. Poor construction over all. hope the new Fuji/Voigtländer folder turns out to be better built!

Since I brought up the folder as an example of Frank Marshmans work, I did not want to leave that discussion without the caveats of an original folder w/o bellows replacement.

I have had 4 or 5 of the S model that the original poster asked about, and I think it's one of the best little 645 cameras in the market... light, small, accurate meter and rangefinder. Actually very sturdy and robust for it's plastic sheath covering. It's all metal frame under the plastic.

Sorry for the change in direction from the original post. I've had Frank work on various Fuji models, including the big rangefinders and the Zi.

Hi,

I followed up on Wallace's advice and had the repair done by "Gerhardt".
Focussing is back as it should be, the broken parts replaced and viewfinder cleaned.
