Where can I find Leitz Focomat Ic?..

I'm looking for it for about a year... At first, I hadn't enough money for the around 600 euros on ebay, now I do have money, but I don't see no nice Focomats there.

I'm looking for Leitz Focomat Ic with slot for filters and white baseboard... But I will consider every variant!..

Maybe some of you know where can I find one?..

I have two 1c's and a valoy. I would entertain the possibility of selling one or two of them. I'm wet behind the ears when it comes to wet printing. Actually I haven't even wet printed yet. If you would like to email me my email is d_ihde@yahoo.com. I could send you photo's of them.

I came across them at a used camera store in the town I live in. The guy had a ton of printing equipment in the basement of his store. I knew a little about Leica equipment and knew their enlargers were good. He had three in the basement. I knew nothing of the difference between the focomats and the valoy. So I made him an offer on the three. He just wanted to get rid of his equipment and now I have three Leitz enlargers.

One of them did have a negative carrier and I would like to keep it with the one that I keep. Sorry. Anyway, shoot me an email if you would like a photo of them. Thanks.

Make that two Valoy's and one 1c. I just went back to the spare room to look at them and saw I have two Valoy's and only one 1c. But would still be interested in letting someone get some good use from it. A Valoy should still serve my purposes quite well.

It is indeed a shop, quite a good shop, very old and reliable. I doubt however if they speak or write English, so the communication will be a problem.
If you are really interested I can intermediate. But be prepaired for very high transportation costs. Those Focomats are heavy.
I will try to download the pictures. I can e-mail them to you if you want.

Marktplaats, Dutch E-bay have several (4) Leitz Focomat at the moment. A regular price is here Eur. 150 - 250.

But transport to Ukraine is very expensive. It's not a problem to give some help for you but even an international bank-wire transfer is costing you Eur. 28,50 to an European bank.

So how you're going to handle this?

If location is an issue (and it sounds like it is) I wouldn't limit myself to just the later gray version. The gray version usually sells for much more money, is harder to locate, and doesn't offer much more in terms of function when compared to the older black versions (I'm not taking the lens into account - aftermarket choices abound). If you expand the search to include the black versions you might have better luck finding one locally.

There were far fewer gray Focomat 1c made. Fewer were made as there was a contraction and shift in the market and many of those that remained looked instead to Durst.

I think the wording should be "offers less". We can argue about the filter drawer but I must also point out that not all gray Focomats were "color" (e.g. with filter drawer) and not all "color" models were gray--- I think the first "color" models were introduced no later the the early 1960s. The new plastic coated baseboards are vastly inferior to the older multiplex wood design-- which also had locking hardware for the excellent Leitz branded masking frames and other accessories. Chrome and other bits were also better on the older models and the black crickle finish was designed to be maintained. In all I think the gray models were cheapened. Even the film holders/masks were made, I think, cheaper.
The most significant problem with the older black models is perhaps their electrical wiring: many of these have cracked insulators. Its a simple matter but the wires generally--- unless they have already been--- need to be replaced with more modern cables and wiring. The most significant improvement in the last gray 1c was the objective: Focotar II.
There are, of course, significant differences among "black" Focomat 1c models and some "black" models are functionally more desirable than others--- large baseboards and tall columns, for example, were offered throughout the product lifetime. None of them are at this time "collectors items" so its all about function--- and perhaps aesthetic (and on this front I think the black models with wooden baseboard too win on their purer 1950s retro-chic).
