Phase One Achromatic+ Back

Just got an information mail from phase one, advertising their new Achromatic+ Digital Back. A pure black and white 39MP digital back with mountable IR filter.

I followed the discussions here about black and white only digital rangefinders. Sorry, but I must admit that I always thought how stupid this is Brian, I know that you also were in favor for a pure black and white digital camera.

Now I am surprised that Phase One offers a pure bw digital back. At least there seems to be some demand for that. This makes me think if my previous opinion was right.

Brian, is this digital back from it's specification something you thought of?

As you can see here the discussion is mainly about a scientific use.

I talked with Kodak's engineers about this a few months ago. They mentioned the 39MPixel product. Cost is in the $30K to $40K range, and size makes it a bit bigger than a lightweight camera for field experiments. Being able to shoot near-IR and visible makes this product attractive for the scientific market. For my work, 39MPixels is "overkill". I would still like to have a monochrome IR camera to take the place of the aging Kodak.
