Moving lightroom to new 'puter

I m a computer tard!

I am getting rid of my current laptop in favor of a large desktop to use jsut for photos.

Lightroom 2 is currently on my laptop and baked up to an external harddrive. I also have the LR2 install disk

What is the best/safest way to move all of this to the new computer? I want to make sure it all stays synced

Hi David,

I copied the entire "My Pictures" folder to an external hard drive, which I then copied over to my new computer. On my computer the "My Pictures" folder contains all my photo files as well as the Lightroom Cataolgs. I then installed LR on my new computer.

This procedure worked for me. All the edits and adjustments I had made on my old computer were not lost.

I keep my external hard drive in a safe place as a backup of everything I had on my old computer.

Hope this helps.

This worked for me.

I keep my Lightroom photos on an external hard drive and the library on the internal drive. Just read carefully and there shouldn't be any problems.

I have my Library on internal HD and backed up to the external drive that holds my images. that drive is then backed-up to a second external drive.

This worked great when the HD on my G-5 crashed a couple of years back and I decided to get a 20" iMAC as all I had to do to get LR running again was to download and install the latest version of the software and copy my LR library to my Pictures folder then start LR and change to that Library.
