W/NW figurative symmetry
...is what I call a form of symmetrical composition, in which it doesn't matter whether the symmetry is precise/mathematically correct or not, while, semantically, the beholder still understands it as symmetry.
this 'symmetry' also often begs to be broken by including an element on the on side but not on the other, or by shifting or turning one of the elements in the picture etc etc. I love the 'dialogues' it can create in between the different parts and elements.
in short, you could say "symmetry, but not really."
here's what I mean:
Simon Lee (OurManInTangier) is a master at this; go check it out:

and now bring it!

And one more, that falls in the same category for me ...
Great idea for a thread, BTW.

Wow - there are some really powerful examples here of what I call "broken symmetry", a term from modern physics to describe why the particle zoo is not precisely symmetric (for example there is a lot more matter than there is anti matter.) It is perhaps the strongest compositional tool in my opinion.
I'll probably post something of my own here, but for now, I will appreciate reverently.

I liked the clouds vs clearer sky, and the light vs shadow.
