Yashica Lynx meter problem

I just acquired a lovely Yashica Lynx 5000. Cosmetically, it's close to perfect. It appears to be mechanically sound. Really a nice solid camera. But...the meter doesn't seem to work. There was no battery in it when it arrived. The battery compartment is clean. I put in a PX625a (not exactly the right battery, I know) that works in another camera, pressed the meter switch and got nothing. The switch doesn't click or anything so maybe that's the problem.

I'm not looking to tear into it myself, but if anyone has a suggestion for a simple fix I'd appeciate it.

If I were you I wouldn't tear a really nice looking Lynx apart just to try to fix the meter. I have one which does have a "working" meter, but its off. Probably the cell degraded.

The meter wires on a Lynx are very flimsy to boot.

Use an external meter or Sunny 16.

Some Yashica Lynx's have bad solder joints (cold solder joints). The wires are also extremely thin. While there is some satisfaction to be gained by getting the meters working again, a good handheld meter is more accurate and reliable.

Metering button does not normally "click" when pressed.

OK. Maybe I'll remove the bottom plate and look for anything obvious. Otherwise i'll just use the Lynx with an external meter. This camera was made when I was about five-years-old. It's in much better shape than I am and I want to keep it that way!!
