Putin meets Reagan (photo with camera)

Today, I came across this story about how Putin (maybe it's him) met Reagan on the red square. He played a tourist, and is depicted wearing a camera around his neck:

http://www.rferl.org/content/Mr_Reag...n/1510946.html

(if you click on the image, you'll see a magnified version). I am thinking this might be a Zorki 6, but perhaps it is an SLR...

SLR, yes. But I think that's one of the Zenits with a large dark meter cell on the front, Zenit ES or something like that.

Great picture!

i actually own that very camera and i'm planning on selling it in the Bay before too long for a bucket of money. it's actually an aligator skin, gold plated leica and i scratched .... uhhh, i mean i, ehhh .... it has inscribed on the bottom plate, "Official KGB Camera - Col. Putin." i'm sure it's legit because it still has prez reagan's thumbprint right on the lens front element.

interesting photo though, ey?

I really much doubt it that this guy is Putin. He looks very different. Compare with those family photos which are linked there. Or they used some facial correction-masks, but that's unlikely.

Yep, a Zenit E or one of its variations. No Putin though - wrong nose, and it is utterly unlikely that they'd have sent the 2nd in command of the East German KGB residency to Moscov to play audience. He is quite likely to have been known to the US secret service, and if he wasn't, they wouldn't have cared to expose somebody of his rank, when they only needed some guy they could trust not to assassinate or insult the head of a superpower on their very doorstep - any low-rank staff or even a plain clothes cop would do there.

I think the camera is just for the tourist image. The real camera is in the shoe between Reagan and the kid where Reagan's hand's shadow is falling on.

No, I on't think that is Mr Putin, but I don't think that is Reagan either (probably a double) - Reagan in Red Square? he would have broken out in a rash

Looking at the lens shape, one of the earlier M39 Zenits?

Looks like the Zenit E with a low-profile Industar-50-2. The lens is about the same size as its older ZM 39 version. Light meter dangling next to it looks like a cased Leningrad-4 (or 6?)

May 1988. Yeah, Yeah. This is Putin - freshly teleported by secret KGB teleportator from Dresden where Putin worked from 1985 till 1990.

Putin being stationed somewhere else doesn't say all that much, humans are known to occasionally visit their relatives and such, they're not stationary drones. The fact that he had a high rank somewhere makes it all the more plausible, the Russians wouldn't let just anyone bystander get that close.

Given the fact that he's in the corner of the shot and lens distortions might alter the face on this guy somewhat you would be able to 'recognise' him, but nose and hair line are quite different. So altogther, I don't buy it.

I'd say this guy was on assigment for protection, his statue is military and he's tensed by the whole hand shaking thing, given he clenches his fists.

The Barack Obama photographer shot be content shooting two american presidents, not out to rake a russian one into his resume as well

It's self-evident truth: paste-up.
Second choice: double or (!!!) clone.
