Dave has another (exciting) photo announcement

Hello Fellow RFfs --

I am pleased to announce that I have been rewarded with another recognition of my photography.

I was just notified that I have won Photo Techniques magazines annual portfolio contest. I submitted eight of my black & white street photographs and these were selected as the winner.

There will be a four page spread in the magazine in the January-February issue that will hit the newsstands in late December.

I will not scoop the magazine by revealing the winning portfolio images but visitors to my PAW and European galleries may be able to pick them out.

This has been a very good year for me being winning contests and/or being published seven times so far in 2007.

Looking through your portfolio, I found "bike boy". I remember seeing that in a magazine recently. Cool that more will be published!

Dave follows up

To rouge_designer:

I browse numerous magazines looking for submission opportunities.
I am also on several mailing lists now that have notices about
competitions, etc. For example, Camera Arts magazine, the
Center for Fine Art Photography, and Photo Forum all have
regular e-mail newsletters that I get. I find submission
opportunties there. I also have photographer friends who
occasionally pass tips to me.

IDEA TO STEPHEN GANDY: Maybe there can be a forum here
on RFf where members can share competition/submission leads.

>Dave, remind us again when the issue hits the stores. I'd
>like to check it out.

To Al Patterson:

Yes, I will post a reminder.

>Looking through your portfolio, I found "bike boy". I remember

To Thardy:

Yes, "Bike Boy" was published in Shutterbug earlier in the
year. And there is no repeat in the Photo Techniques selections.

To Everyone Else:

Thanks for your kinds words of support.

Well, I once wanted to be an Infamous Photographer, but Ron Galella and Helmut Newton were fighting for that title, so...

Beaucoup congrats, Dave (again).

As for photo contects, whatever one may think of them (for me, it mostly depends on who's throwing 'em), it reminds me of a quote from some character from some movie I can't remember at the moment: you cannot win if you do not play. Of course, that might have been a croupier in A.C. on a slow night...

Dave - question for you...

How have you been finding contests to enter? Just looking through the magazines you read? Or some other resource? I haven't entered anything in years, and am curious to hear what you've been doing.

Other than taking great photos, obviously.

Simply participating to contests is the key 50% of the time.

Dave, what's the "famous photographer" signature about? You naming yourself?

To paraphrase Wayne Gretzky: You lose 100% of the contests you don't enter.

Congrats, Dave!
