scratched Leica TELE-ELMARIT .
I'm buying a voigtlander 3ra with a couple of lenses. One of them is a Leica Tele-elmarit 90 mm 2.8 with a badly damaged coating on the frontlens.
Does anybody know it I can take of the coating.... does it leave me with an oldfashioned lens, or am I making the problem even worse. As long as there is no direct light on the lens it works remarkably wel.
Sugiestion are welcom!

test the lens and see what you get. Try to stop it down, rather than shooting wide open where the damaged coating will negatively impact the fotos. Use lens a shade and try to have light source behind you to avoid flare.

If you try to remove the coating you'll do more damage. If the damage is only to the coating and the glass is damage free it can be re-coated..

I had an Elmarit 90 repaired, the front lens was badly damaged. Like sandblast-holes in it. Looked not too bad, like internal haze at first sight. I got the lens very cheap so I could take the gamble.
In theory without the front coating the lens will flare more but with a proper hood could do well.
As suggested earlier, test the lens as it is.
Welcome, by the way. Where in Holland do you live?

I read that you can bring it to a good eyeglass seller, and they can chemically strip off the old coating and re-multicoat it. I would say try it first. If it is bad, call a few optometrists.

well, I've got the camera and the lenses and shoot some rolls..... the 90 mm isn't useable at all. Since the 90 mm voigtlander apo lanthar 3,5/90 mm only costs about 280 euro's (aprox. 380 usd) I will go for that option. thanx for your comment

Pity to waste a good lens. You might try the re-coating option.
