Epson V350, anyone tried one?

It was recently suggested to me that I look at the new Epson V350 as a cheaper alternative to the Epson V700 / Nikon V ED, primarily for quick scans suitable for posting on the internet.

Apparantly it comes with a built-in filmstrip feeder, like the Nikon V ED, that handles up to 6 negatives at a time which sounds rather convenient.

So my question is has anyone tried one of these scanners yet, and if so what's the quality of the scans like? How about scanning speed?

I haven't seen one in person but I have heard that it is just a repackaging of the 3590 models' internals into a new shell. A new look and slightly tweaked features to the body but about the same very entry level performance when it comes to 35 mm film scanning. Unless you are just planning to output to the web or 4x6ish print sizes, I am not sure this is the best long-term investment. With the price of the 4490 falling, I would seriously look at that vs. the V350. Better yet, for 35 mm on a budget I would encourage you to find a good used dedicated film scanner such as the Minolta Dual scan III or IV.

Just so long as it's for online only. If you're using it form making presentation or exhibition prints look at getting a dedicated film scanner. I have an Epson Perfection photo 3170 and there is too much noise in the shadows.

Most of the scans in my gallery are done with a epson 4990 which can take 24 35mm frames at a time
