LENS HOOD 12585 H Refinish?

I just received the hood for the DR 'cron. It looks like it's done about two tours in Iraq. OK, I'm exaggerating a little. My main concern is that the black is gone around the front edge. I'm probably making too much of nothing, but that shiny edge looks like it could throw reflections on the lens.

Is there a DIY fix to make the shiny parts flat black again? Or do I live with this hood, "character marks" and all?

Thanks for the help.

For something really flat, I'd use Krylon Ultra Flat Black. It's only in a spray can, just spray a small amount into a receptacle in order to use a small brush.
