Would You Ever Pose . . .

nude for photgraphs? What would the circumstances have to be? Are you comfortable with nudity? Why or why not? Have you ever shot nudes? What was your experience? What do you think is your "comfort zone"?
Just a general curiosity because I think we photogs are more voyeurs than exhibitionists, but perhaps I'm wrong.

I have posed for my girlfriend when I was young(er), and she posed for me. But then she was in the "Best of Cheri," and I was just nuts.

Sure. Why not. I'd probably break the camera lens, but that would be someone else's problem.

Depends on whose.

Because some people look better with clothes on. Like me.

Sure.

Which time? Mostly, it was for friends. When I was younger, it was for my own, ah, gratification.

Everything makes me uncomfortable, so no real difference.

No, I'm quite a flasher. Most people wish I would stop. I really should.

I can't do the nude thing. I can not pose because I just do not like being in front of the camera. I can not take pictures of women in the nude because I always end up knowing them.... in the biblical sense. A nude woman in front of me, that is just what is supposed to happen. It is hard wired into my brain. I should be more professional. Dang, now I am mad at myself. I don't like this thread. I have only taken one shot of a woman naked. Here it is attached. No frontal nudity though.

Hey, this reminds me of something else. A friend of mine takes pictures for a website called Suicidegirls.com It is a bunch of girls that have post messages online or something like that. Anyway their hook is that they are mostly goth and kind of freaky. Anyway, he does not have any problem taking nude shots and does it all the time. His website is www.fieldsandfieldsofwheat.com I might ask him this question tomorrow when I head into Orlando. I do remember when I asked him about model releases he told me, "Only to make sure I get the model release when shooting nudes!"

Happy to do my part. My wife once asked me if I'd ever consider posing nude, and I said sure, why not, I don't really like people anyway - serves 'em right.

My body is too beautiful to be revealed willy-nilly. It's kind of like an Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark thing...

I am not opposed to shooting nudes though. I just haven't.

Just don't expose your "willy-nilly" Stuart

It seems like pornography is one of the most sought after products there is. It is literally the product that people will beat a path to your doorstep and beg to buy.

Exploitive, that's the word I was looking for to say where I draw the line between what's ok and what's not ok. Hey, I'm no prude and I've been around the block a few times. However, I do have a problem with that which is demeaning or degrading.

You've got to admit that a lot of what we call porn is demeaning, either directly to those posing/acting/whatever or to society (to women, mostly) in general.

You see those disclaimers such as "no cats were harmed shooting this commercial" and such. You really can't say that about porn.

But again (devil's advocate mode) I can think of serious art or even reportage that's demeaning or degrading ...

You want to know what's demeaning and degrading? Me at my day job, that's what.

I don't have to admit it.

That must that kitty porn I keep hearing about.

But to answer the question, no I would not.

Quote:
What would the circumstances have to be?
None, that's not my style. I'm shy enough being in front of the camera fully clothed!

Quote:
Are you comfortable with nudity? Why or why not?
Actually, I am, quite, under the right circumstances. I just don't think it's something I want to share commercially or even have floating around out of my control. I do know some people who did at times have nude (or worse) photos or videos taken and had them turn up under the most embarrassing circumstances.

Quote:
Have you ever shot nudes?
Not really. Well, to make a long story long ... What I did once was do some "audition" shots for some girlfriends of mine who answered one of those "Models wanted, 18-22" or something like that. This was back in college and they asked me to just do a couple of what I might call "cheesecake" shots of them because they didn't feel like auditioning in person. This was back in college (undergrad) and they were both hired for some lingerie and bikini type shoots. They really were not paid that much, but (yeah, I knew it was coming) they were told that they would make a lot more for showing more skin and such, which they both declined.

Quote:
What was your experience?
Well, as the brief career as the "glamour photographer" I just posed them in a springtime garden which actually adjoined an alley, but the results were nice. These were B&W. What kinda shocked me was that the one photographer they posed for asked them to ask me if I would be interested in making $$$ taking photos like that. I declined. Both of them quit shortly after.

Quote:
What do you think is your "comfort zone"?
Well, I really think of myself as being very openminded and comfortable in most situations. I could see myself shooting artistic nudes maybe, but I want to keep my distance as far as I can from the "Adult Industry", not that I'm a prude, far from it, I just don't want to be any part of that scene.

I could actually see myself doing fashion/runway photography, perhaps in another life yet to come, but I really don't have any desire to -- let's see how I can put this -- take photos intended more to arouse than to entertain or inform.

Quote:

I would agree, but I would add that I think it's more than just the sociosexual roles of voyeur and exhibitionist.

I'm far more comfortable behind the lens than in front of it, under any circumstances. I have a feeling many photographers are too.

I've always been interested in photography, but never really in modeling. When I was younger I was always told that I should be a hand model, but I never pursued it.

But I was gonna say that it's almost exclusively guys doing the shooting for glamour/nude work, but then I remember a book I read years ago, and it was actually somewhat dated then, by Bunny Yeager (sp?) who was most definitely an exhibitionist as well as a photographer.

Oh well, it's gonna be interesting to see how this thread develops.

My signature at APUG (which I don't frequent that much after finding RFF) is: "Preferring to be on the shiny" (base, not emulsion) "side of the film."
