I did write to them and this was what I got (the prize has since been sent to another person):

Jeremy,

We apologize for the mix-up with the contest and we understand your frustration. We really wanted to have you as a guest! We did try very hard to get in touch with you (we could not send you a direct message as Leica camera at the time, but instead, Rene contacted you from him personal account two different times, we tried to tag you in photos and comments, but possibly due to privacy settings, we could not, and we also tried to contact you through your website, but had no luck that way either).

Thank you for contacting us about this issue and again, we are so sorry that it did not work out!

Sincerely,

Leica Internet Team

Too bad, really!

Wouldn't call it the chance of a lifetime though.

Quite a few spelling mistakes in those messages so I'd be slightly doubtful of the validity. However did you enter a competition? I must have missed that one on the Leica page on Facebook.

True. But if really a scam, wouldn't they have pushed it forward again disregarding the deadline?

The quiz was real you can find it here. Its was on the official Leica facebook page http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...type=3&theater

I just mashed a number in and did not care about the rest because i didn't know that i would've won. I was the 2nd person to guessed the correct amount of lens element in the jar. the first person was inactive so they tried their best to contact me but failed... So they gave the prize to the 3rd person who correctly guessed it.

The prize was to go to Berlin for an event on May 10? Well, I don't know how much of an attraction that is, really -- unless they're going to give you an M10 also....

You've never been to Berlin, right? Even without a camera gift this trip could be interesting enough if you have some time to explore the cify

If you live on the other side of the world, going to Europe (and Berlin, at that - one of the most interesting cities around here) can be Big Thing in itself.

Anyway. That's a bummer, man. You're not the only one who's been bitten by the "Other" tab. I wasn't even aware of its existence until months after people had sent personal messages that I should have replied to..

If you click on Messages in the left-hand column, a new link, "Other", will appear below "Messages". Or just go here: https://www.facebook.com/messages/other/

This page contains messages sent by non-friends. These messages don't show up as notifications, so if you're not aware of the page, they are easily missed. Which can be annoying!

I never saw those messages! There's one saying I won us$750,000 dollar. Wow But that's 2010... should be a little more now taking inflation into account?

I hope this somehow "credit back" in your future "luck usage"...
Yup, I believe in karma and I believe it would probably come back to me in the form of a M10 or a noctilux!

I live in Adelaide, Australia. So a free trip to Germany (on the other side of the world) was awesome by itself! Would have cost an arm and a leg for me to travel to Germany by my own expenses.

And... About the "Other's" tab...

Sorry to hear that. I probably would have been sceptical as well.

If you need to find the others tab it is here http://www.facebook.com/messages and I too have found messages from old freinds months after they were sent.
