Smile And then I bought an RD-1s ???

I'd just finished working outside in the yard and came in and checked RFF, like you do when you've been away from the computer for more than an hour or two.

And there it was!

An RD-1s in the classifieds looking pretty darned good in it's griptac for $850.00!

I thought about the four lenses I have in M mount in the cupboard ... 15mm Heliar ~ 25mm f2.8 Zeiss ~ 35mm f1.2 Nokton ~ and a 50mm f1.5 C Sonnar! And it was for sale from a member in a place where I spent the first twenty years of my life ... Windy Wellington!

I pondered for all of about fifteen seconds ... and the rest is history as they say!

I have no real expectations because after all it is an eight year old design with a 6 megapixel sensor ... but I've seen enough images around here from these Epsons over the years to convince me it was definitely worth a shot at that sort of money. If I hate it I will pass it on in our classifieds at the price I paid for it.

I meant to add ... please feel free to post some RD-1 images in this thread to keep me amused while I wait for the camera to get here!

Some black and white conversions would be nice ... and also feel free to post your camera settings with your samples.

I'm sure you'll like it just fine. It's a real RF, after all. You can print just fine to A3 from a well-crafted 6Mpx shot. How much bigger do you need to print?

Use your, ahem, other camera(s) for no-light ISO128,000 stuff, and your new toy for all the non-vampire work. I reckon you'll have fun.

If that wasn't the RFF deal of the year, so far, it must have been close. I hope the camera treats you right. Have fun experimenting!

It was a nice change to see something like this very soon after it was posted ... thanks to the time zones being better aligned.

I think this is my first ever RFF classifieds bargain and I thank the seller pkreyenhop for being so upstanding!

You definitely have a nice set of lenses for the R-D1!

Even if sheer image quality can't match more recent cameras, it's great fun to shoot. And, for some reason, this aging, 6MP camera perform wonderfully at ISO 1600, particularly for B&W conversions.

Enjoy!

That 35/1.2 will be about a 50mm now...that's my favorite focal length! Should be awesome.

Congrats, do good work with it!

Welcome to the club, Keith. You'll love it!

Now you did ask for some images so here are a couple that show that special R-D1 colour. I think all have been posted before. I always use the Epson software, it's a little old fashioned looking but gives great results.

Lol, I was the first to email him about the camera. Was gonna buy it, but I just purchased a new lens, 35 2.8 C-Biogon. Grats on your purchase! I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying it.

Nice!
Super camera. Find yourself a nice copy of the CLE Rokkor f2/40mm or Nokton f1.4/40mm and you'll have a match made in heaven!

So why do you want the Xpro Joe?

And those black and whites are right where I like to see them ... what was the process?

the rd1 satisfies my most basic photographic need...it helps me create images that look good to me.
the newer machines are attractive because of failing eyesight (due to age and diabetes).

my processing is super simple keith.

i open the files in pse8, usually cropped the edges a bit, decide on colour or b&w, and then play with levels until i like what i see, use a very mild unsharp mask and that is it. average total post processing time about 3 minutes per image.

I'm glad I saw the ad after you bought it. I've been thinking about getting an RD-1 for ages, but my wallet is thankful that I've not sprung for one yet.
