I have been thinking of getting back into MF. I have been looking on EBay. I notice it seems the Mamiya 6 actually cost more than the 7. Why?
It seems I could maybe pick up a 7 for under a grand. Anywhere to look other than KEH, Adorama and B&H?
I just sold a 7 II in excellent shape for about a grand, so yes I think that's do-able. I do think there are more body+lens combos on the various boards than just bodies alone for sale, so you might consider the purchase of a kit. Mamiya rangefinders come up for sale regularly at the getdpi and largeformatphotography sites.
No idea why the 6 seems to be more expensive than the 7.

Two very different systems imo. Had a 7ii and absolutely loved it with the 43, a very wide lens. Didn't like travelling with it and now using Mamiya 6 with the 50 and 75. Miss the look of the 43 but have always loved square (6x7, not as much) and the 50 is very nice.
The 6 folds into a very compact camera and this feature, combined with the square format, is what I think leads to the high prices. Most photojournalists I know shooting MF are usually shooting with the 6 vs 7.
Keh would be where I'd be looking for used Mamiyas, or ebay.
I see the 7 all over eBay for under a grand but the 6 is always around 1200 or higher. I am not to big on a square format. I do mostly landscapes.
Sure that you aren't comparing bare bodies with cameras with a (expensive) wide lens? Hereabouts the 7 tends to go for around 1200-1600€ (i.e. about $2000) with the 80mm lens, while the 6 generally does not reach a thousand € with the 75mm. And the relation between their lens prices is similar.
