Praise for Jon Goodman - camera seal kits

All our old cameras need a little care occasionally, and many have foam seals that help keep them light-tight, but these deteriorate over time. For many years Jon Goodman has sold kits on ebay (under the seller name "Interslice"), but has recently had problems with some people copying all his good work and selling the kits and instructions as their own work. I believe Jon has suspended selling on ebay.

The good news is that he is still making kits, and selling direct! I recently contacted Jon for a kit for my "new" Fuji GSW690. Jon's kit just arrived in the post, and comes with all the foam strips required, plus a little tool to help remove the old foam, and a really comprehensive set of instructions that is specific to this camera. As a bonus, the instructions also cover removing the top cover and cleaning the viewfinder! I was planning to tackle that anyway so the instructions are very welcome.

If your camera needs seals, contact Jon at 'JGood21967@aol.com'.

Disclaimer: I have no connection to Jon, other than as a very satisfied customer.

I agree ... I have one of his kits that has a variety of materials allowing you to do almost any camera. I've read he doesn't sell these any more but now concentrates on kits for specific cameras?

I think I bought the same kit as Keith...I have been able to fix several cameras and I still have plenty leftover to do a few more...wish I had bought more of these kits when he sold them...
I'll be doing business with Jon again sometime in the near future...
I couldn't find him on ebay so it's good to know I can go directly to him...

I've never bought his seal kits but we have emailed each other a bit about Contaflex stuff. He comes across as being a really decent guy, always helpful and friendly, generous with his knowledge as well.
Regards,
Brett

Great guy, great service

When I first got back to film cameras maybe 8 yrs ago, I had to get my Pentax MX CLA'd. I sent it to Mark Hama, and while he was excellent, I wanted to be able to do "simple" task myself, and contacted Jon on ebay (Interslice?) and got his full-size seal replacement kit. Since then Jon changed his packaging, and I believe he only sells kits customized to specific cameras, but has a very good inventory. I got some of those too, and they work extremely well.

On top of that, he has helped me out in other ways, like when I inquired about tackling simple RF CLA tasks, like cleaning the viewfinder. He was always very helpful, no matter what I asked.

A great resource to know about, if you're serious about simple CLA tasks.

He is perhaps the nicest man I have ever done business with. I just emailed him over the weekend about getting new seals for an OM-2n, he emailed back within minutes and shipped me one instantly, before I even got a chance to mail him a check! Every time I do business with him I am floored. And the kits are bar-none the best. I wish there were more people like him out there.

Jon is absolutely terrific!
Good to know there are folks like this in the business.
His Nikon/Nikkormat seals are the best--work every time.
Thanks, Jon!

I agree with Chris N. I have two Nikkormat FTn's that I no longer use and before deciding to sell them I purchased the kits from John to replace the light seals and mirror pads. Easy job and the precut kits are great! Look up "Interslice".

I don't want to beat a horse to death but Jon is outstanding. I have redone three cameras with his kits and could not be more pleased.

Good to know. I'll be ordering a few from him shortly.

I've used his kits in the past and would rather pay a few extra dollars for precut kits than deal with trying to make it fit as well myself. Some cameras are easier than others...

I'll second and thrid that. Seems kind of like a pipe dream these days that we could deal with companies/institutions delivering the level of service and response we get from Mr Goodman and Youxin Ye. There ought to be some level of award or recognition for these folks...

Jon is a fine Texan and probably more responsible than anyone else living today for the continued life of many vintage cameras. He's a super guy and always takes the time to give helpful advice.

I like those little cartoons he always draws on the envelopes and the ubiquitous "hand cancel only!"

I bought my first rangefinder from him, my canonet ql17. Which was a good choice, cause my coworker also bought a canonet around the same time but he had to spend extra to get the seals cleaned.

Jon is a great guy, sells a great product and, best of all, backs it up with the best installation instructions I have ever seen. He is the only place I would trust for replacement seals. Glad to hear he is back "online".

I emailed Jon yesterday (we've been corresponding about Contaflice, amongst other cameras). So I mentioned this discussion and the kind words within to him, and I think he really appreciated them. I've put in a good word for this great on line community we share, and encouraged him to consider becoming involved with it again. I think his generosity with his knowledge means that RFF would benefit from his presence. He said he'll stop by and have a look, so maybe we'll get to welcome his return. I hope so, apart from anything else, he is an extra nice guy who always tries to help others when he can.
Regards,
Brett

Jon is a really top guy. I heard of him over on a forum called talkphotography in the UK. I think he has pretty much the whole film camera using fraternity there as customers!

I'll join the praise :-). Have just used a kit today for my recently bought Minolta Hi-Matic 7S. Everything perfect as usual with excellent instructions, as usual.
Great to have people like him around

Has anyone heard from Jon recently? I bought a seal kit from him last October, but one of my customers (I work at OldSchoolPhotoLab.com) is having trouble getting in touch with him...

Does anyone actually know him? Is he ok? Still selling kits via direct sales?
