| Digital Leica M8 / M8.2 / M9 / M-E /Mono / M10 aka "M" Discussions about the Leica M8 /M 8.2 / M9 / M9-P/ M-E / M Monochrom / M10 aka "M": Leica digital M mount rangefinder cameras. Naming the new digital M the "Leica M" is VERY unfortunate as it will only confuse newbies with other Leica M cameras of the the past. Happily there is room for confusion with only the past 59 years of Leica M production ... since Leica introduced the Leica M system in 1953. All Hail for the Leica Marketing Department learning Leica M history! |

can't find user M8
hello, i'm taking the digital plunge (keeping my film m's)so i need help finding a user m8, i would like to find a body already broken in , so i don't have to worry about scratching a minty m8, we all have our own comfort zones and that is mine, plus i should be able to save a few dollars over a minty body, once the m10 hits the m8 should finally come down. thanks in advance for any help

Is an M10 rumored to be in the works? I guess even Leica has to get into frequent update game.

M8's come up for sale here in the Classifieds.
You might try a Want-to-Buy ad, they are free.

I was just considering selling one of mine this weekend, not actively though. What country are you in?

No, there is none!
Because I do not live in the U.S. and I can not buy it!
Why? Is this some kind of racism?

Don't be frustrated. Everything I bought from the States recently has been subject to customs clearing fees & VAT, which added about 30% on top of the original price. That would not be a good surprise on a 2500$ Leica M8!

It's neither. It is a totally legitimate distrust of the international postal system.
Sorry to have steered you wrong.

I can't understand what's keeping the prices of M8s up. Ugh, I'd buy one but they're not worth $2500!

M8's have been at $2500 dollars since the M9 came around. I was trying to sell mine at $3200 but got no takers. It's the weirdest thing. Regardless of condition, mint, user, or version M8, M8 with upgrades or M8.2, they all sell for about $2500 dollars.

The M8.2 certainly sells for more than $2500.

The nice thing about Leica gear is that you can buy it (used), use it for any length of time, and then sell when you want to move on to something else and never take any appreciable loss. A 2400 dollar M8 today is a 2300 M8 a year from now. Few other hobbies are this forgiving when it comes to losing money at the hobby. But there is always a risk that the gear you buy might need maintenance or repair while you own it and with a camera like the M8 this can be costly. So, IMO, best to buy one that is in great shape, not a beater, that way there is less risk.

There's one on the bay right now in the region of £1,000 with only 2 bidders. No relation to seller, by the way.

I bought my M8 1500€ from a local photographer after he failed to sell it on eBay. It is in great shape, had only 4000 shutter actuations, but came without box or manual (he did offer me a LowePro bag, though).
Keep looking and be patient. M8 are frequently offered at 1500€. Not lower though.
