I am coming to Vancouver!
...in late summer / early autumn this year, september 13 - 28 that is.
I'm very keen on exploring the city and surroundings, I will be shooting a LOT, but I also want to meet as many interesting people as possible, so if you're in the area and wouldn't mind having a beer /coffee with me or showing me around...!
only the flights are booked, as far as accomodation is concerned I still depend on your hints and offers (I might have a place to stay for a couple of nights, but definitely not for all of the two weeks). maybe someone would even welcome me at their home for a night or two, I can pay them in prints and good karma!
any other hints, tipps, do's and don't's?

Vancouver, Washington or Vancouver BC? They're basically separated by the state of Washington (a drive of 6-8 hours IIRC). Sorry, couldn't resist, but living where I do, it's a legitimate question.

Great answer! I don't blame you in the least. Ever since 9/11 I've done my best to avoid US Airports, and I live here! I'm starting to become less successful, as I've started needing to fly for work on rare occasions. Somehow I don't think they'll let me take the train... Though now that I think about it, I might have to ask...

Not that cheap unfortunately. I order all of mine through B&H or Freestyle and pick it up at the border.
Locally, Beau Photo has Tri-X 135-36 listed at $6.79 CDN before the 12% HST tax. I know... it's pricey. =P

no. I don't really like workshops.
I'm going there to meet Tom and Tuulikki again, for photography and out of curiosity.

You might want to check out Vancouver Island. It's very nice.
Not sure what to recommend in the city aside from eating sushi.

I'm in Vancouver. I don't have any space for you to stay, but I can recommend a few places to go check out.

I'm in Langley, about 35 miles east of Vancouver, so I'm not as familiar with the city as others may be but I can still suggest many possibilities if you don't get good ideas from the "city-dwellers". You've got lots of time to plan so we can keep in touch between now and then. One thing I could offer is a day-trip up the Fraser Canyon--a couple hundred miles to the east--to see some of the "rest" of our lovely province. I'm an avid railfan and there's no better place to watch and photograph trains than up through the Canyon--we might even get you hooked on the game yourself.
In any case, there are a number of us on here from the area and I'm sure we'll be able to book you for far more activities than you'll have time for. And September is a wonderful time to visit--the weather is normally good, the bugs are gone and so are the majority of the tourists. The only thing you won't get to see is our famous rain...

great suggestions, thank you!
I have rather profound rain knowledge and experience, so I think I could live with that.
