markE, what covering did you get for your M3? Be sure to show us when you get it recovered. I did my M2 last year and loved the results. The new covering helped to give the camera a much newer look matching better the new lens that it was sporting. It's probably the cheapest easiest cosmetic upgrade that one can do for a M.

Here they are. My two Ms. One filled with 400, the other with 100 !

Very nice.... they work more than twice as nice in a pair.....

My M3 recently back from a paint job thanx to Robert J. I still have the original top and bottom if I ever choose to go back to chrome--something tells me I won't. Robert did an excellent job. I highly reccommend him.

Bill, that M3 paint job looks great. I like the look of the chrome levers and knobs on the black camera body.

digitalintrigue 05-31-2009 07:06

Bill, I'm glad you like how the M3 turned out. It helped that the top and bottom plate you sent had seen very little use, so the finish was good and no dings or dents. Most cameras that come my way have seen the world and have minor scars.

The chrome bits and the chrome DR really make for a striking combination. I've done several 'anti pandas' recently.

How did you get that M8 done into a Panda? Sent it back to Solms?

Leica did a limited run of these M8 Pandas (I was told 100 pieces). I got mine in March from Kurland in NYC. Same price as the standard black M8. Different finish than the black standard M8 has. Black paint of some sort, but not the gorgeous lacquer of the MP.

So that's how my M3 is going to turn out. :D

Robert and Youxin are doing the exact same thing to my M3... and I also have a DR Summicron.

I have a user M2 coming I'm sending to Robert and will go full restoration with everything black paint.

I have a Shintaro painted IIIf and even though the finish is different, the quality of the paint job is similar.

Robert already had the top and bottom painted. I sent the M3 last week and had it back Saturday.

So, why do folks call these anti-pandas?

Thanks! The extension on the shutter release button is an old M soft release. Got it off ebay for the fun of it. Not very practical in terms of handling, but looks nice.

I think your M3 is in much better shape than mine. With a collapsible Elmar-M 50mm f/2.8, it'll be a real looker!

Cheers,

Nice!!! I'm a real sucker for black cameras with silver/chrome dials/levers.

Do you have a picture of the top and the back as well? Would love to see the rest of the camera as well.

Cheers,

Anti-panda is therefore self-explanatory. :)

I wanted post 3000, but I didn't think this shot was worthy of such a milestone.
