Yeah thats the reason I went for a chrome M9-P. I loved the M8.2 and was disappointed to see they went for a more durable black, especially when the lifespan of these cameras now are so short compared to film M's.

I guess Leica sees it as if they extend the used value of their cameras with less wear (more durable paint), they will increase the perceived overall value of the brand.

It's all marketing 101 ;)

Thanks ;-)

Too bad, Leica switched to a different, matte paint (which seems more durable) on the M9. The M8.2 paint indeed almost looks like piano lacquer, when used for a while, as it get's some shine.

No worries, your's will wear too, oh and it's not a written law, to forbid ownership of two MPs ;-)
The BP MP has been almost new, when I took that picture, but it surely will hold up better than the M8.2, as I shoot mostly digital (some recently acquired lenses might change that though :D).

Hah, well, that's the dream - 2 MPs. Now, coming up with the money for another MP... That's what I need to figure out. :)

Kristian, a friend told me, that over in Hong Kong, some real fans were going as far as disassembling the top deck of their M9, to have the original black paint polished with car polish, to end up with a similar finish as the M8.2 and MP ;-) Now that is dedication to black paint. Love your chrome M9P btw! Looks best with black ThumbsUp!

Wes, you only live once and your grand, grand children will thank you for it (make sure, you freeze some film stock for the next decades ;-) )

I love it. It's tiny and the glass is recessed enough that I usually don't bother with a hood. I actually prefer the lens on the M8 and don't use it that much on the M4, although I have started using it more lately. It isn't the sharpest wide open but when stopped down a little it improves a good deal. I got one of the code-able LTM adapters on eBay and painted in the code so it works great on the M8. It's pretty much the M8's "body cap" lens.

I think it's the smallest 28 aside from the much older Summarons or Hektors.

35 Lux ASPH's hood?! great idea!

menos 08-11-2011 19:58

@illuminati_02 That is a dream lens setup, you have there!

@Kristian absolutely handsome combination (although I am not a fan of the after market leather straps).

No, and Yes. Actually this is the new(ish) #12466 designed for the 35 Summilux ASPH V1, 28 Summicron ASPH and the 28 Elmarit V4 lenses. Snaps on great, nice and firm and is a smaller footprint than the rather large original 28mm hood. I also prefer round hoods.

Neither am I, which is why I have an Artist & Artisan cloth strap ;) - the softest strap around!

Does the hood still rotate ?

No it clicks in like the square hood and has absolutely no play, nice and tight and solid. It's a beautiful strong feeling hood with just the right thickness to take some beating without being easily bent, which is a concern when using a metal hood. I think the plastic square hood may crack before this actually bends significantly.

I've very happy with the purchase, although still trying to get over the price.

Everything appears to be in immaculate condition--including The White Album! Is that an original LP sleeve or something else entirely?

Thanks Wes, yes, despite being worn pretty quick and rambling of some Leica users of how much better the older black paint was than the new black paint :p, it is my most liked finish.

Here is an older picture of the M8.2 - it was my daily shooter for a year.
This seems, to change now slightly, as at the moment, I use the M9 more (I guess, until the "new" rubs off).

Dirk, I really like that M8.2 BP and the "patina'd" look, it would go so well together with my 2000 LHSA M6 TTL 0.85 BP :)

I've heard that the newer Leica paint doesn't hold up as well as the older paints? (but, at least the 2000 era issue Millennium/LHSA M6's have a really high quality paintjob - the quality on mine reminds me of the old M4 BP, but better/harder?) - That M8.2 looks like it's a nice even wear, so that's a good enough, I like seeing the brass through, I think it's going to take me quite a few rolls to get the paint wear started on my LHSA still........... :)

MAYBE? the next digital Leica will be a M8.2 BP? - If I can find one that's still under warranty? - I've got like till next April 2012 factory warranty on my regular M8 and then like 4 years Mack warranty on top of that.....I think within the next year, I'll try to accquire something new that's digital and Black Painted! :D

Enjoy and Happy Shooting!

Tom
