Thanks for the info Erik. All the serial numbers lists I've seen list it as a chrome M3 hence the question. Is it that this was a chrome and then converted by Leitz in the seventies then?

Yes. That means that is was completely rebuilt with parts that were still in stock at the factory at that time. It is therefore still in a relative good condition. The paint type is the same as on the black paint M4's and is therefore of a much better quality than the paint that was used on the black M2's and M3's.

Erik.

abenner 08-29-2009 03:15

my the way, edho, you get my vote for having the coolest around here. Black paint M4, olive M2, etc. Beautiful.

It is a repainted chrome one, isn't it?

Erik.

mauro scacco 08-29-2009 14:38

May be, but the work is so fine that it'possible be a Leitz's one... Mauro

Got a nice surprise today--my M7 griptac came in from Cameraleather after only a couple of days. Awesome! Also got my black soft release from Stephen, so the M7 is now rarin' to go (though it's already been going for a week). Replacing the covering was very, very easy, esp. compared to trying to get vulcanite off an old camera...a Zorki-1 once took me days, and this whole project took half an hour.

I'm semi-tempted to fill in the white M7 logo with black paint of some kind, since I prefer the minimalist look (the camera already had the black dot when I bought it from a fellow RFF'er), but probably I'll just leave it.

Lens is the Zeiss-Opton f/2 Sonnar with Amedeo Muscelli adapter.

The Griptac looks great. Do you need to remove the old skin from the camera before putting on the Griptac skin? Self-adhesive?
