Thanks Helen! I also really love that small black Barnack you're taking out lately, and especially the results you get from it! Magical stuff!

My other 1932 Leica II and Summitar 50/ f2. Works great but, you may see it in the classifieds soon. I don't need 2. Not selling the lens. I like it too much and it's really clean:) I took this picture with a 1930 Elmar 135/f4.5 on my G1. I'm amazed how something so old can take pictures like this. So sharp:D

Hi There,

It's been a while That I am watching these forums, but here is the firts time I am "posting" something. An I am posting it here, where I find it nice to read a lot about LTM leicas.

Here is what I have, in terms of LTM Leica :

A Leica IIIc (sharksin) with its Sumitar ;
A Leica IIIg with its Summicron 35/2

In my bag, I have also a VC 15/4.5, and a Nikkor 50/1.4 Both are great lenses, even if I find the Nikkor a bit heavy. In fact, I often leave it at home, using it mainly for "indoor pictures".

I Really love my IIIc : it is just as heavy as I need, and the shutter is ultra quiet. I really like my IIIg, even if it is "noisier" than the IIIc, bevause in fact, you can perfectly take pictures from 35mm through 90mm in a small/light package. But it does feel less sturdy than the Leica IIIc.

I Think I will want a third Leica III sooner or later : I want a set for "indoor situations" (with the nikkor), a set with the VC 15/4.5, and a set with the IIIg and a 28/35 mini-finder for all around versatility outside.

Everything I have, I got it cheap, and if like a lot photography, I am not a "specialist". I will post picts of what I take as soon as I get the time to scan what I see where I go. I also have a Nikon FA and a Nikon FM3a with various lenses from Ais 20/4 ; 28/2.8 ; 50/1.8 ; 85/2, but I have to admit that I am using them less often now that I have my Leicas and a New Mamiya 6 (50mm being very impressive).

Ah, and I am thinking of buying a VC Color Skopar 28/3.5 !

OlliL 11-18-2010 03:50

I love the II for it's super clean look.
And BP is even better :-)

You shooting a Summar now, Helen?

I'd REALLY love to see what stuff you get from that, I'm pretty sure it will be magical!

johannielscom 11-19-2010 16:57

Here's my Summar clone, a FED 50/2.0 on a FED-S Komandirski from 1941:

I shot it against a 'real' Summar once on the M8 when I still had that: not a difference. Even color rendering was identical.
The camera probably was defaced and rechromed, ready to be engraved as a 'Leica', when they saw it was a FED-S. So now the top plate is blank. FED camera type development narrows it down to 1941.

That camera deserves some quality time with me. I should take it out more. I got some rolls of Neopan 400 that would do nicely with it!

helenhill 11-19-2010 17:02

Lovely Rig, Johan....Sweeeet !

The summar is FAST becoming my Favorite 50mm lens....

RFH 11-29-2010 19:28

Here's my latest acqisition: Leica IIIf with Nippon Kogaku 35/3.5 lens. A beautiful thing, but I may have to sell it as it's hard to justify the expense these days. Already have an M6 and R-D1, and the IIIf's viewfinder doesn't really compete with those. But first a roll of film must be run through it. Then we'll see if I fall in love with it.

robklurfield 11-29-2010 20:05

the IIIf just arrived today...

Interesting, the silver version has a infinity lock and my black version a focus tab. Do you also have the case ?

Thanks, Helen. Youxin quoted a month, but he was finished with the CLA early. Waiting for the new Red Coat took a little longer.

digitalintrigue 12-17-2010 19:00

Cindy, do you have a filter on that Elmar?

Cindy Flood 12-17-2010 19:05

Hi Robert,
Yes, I do have a filter on there.

digitalintrigue 12-17-2010 19:23

hmm. I need a yellow one of those. What is the filter size?

bigeye 12-18-2010 04:57

I'm not sure of the size (E19?), but the Walz filters for the Argus C3 are often used. They're inexpensive and available, but very old (50's). The original Leica as above are from the '30s, I believe, and harder to find.

A SOOGZ will adapt regular E39 filters. A VOOLA/SOOGZ combination is Leica OCD perfection.

To fondle: the IIIa, to shoot: the IIIg

I shoot the IIIg mostly with the 2.8 Summaron. I haven't checked the latest IIIf yet, the one shown above, but it looks and feels like it is in excellent shape. The IIIa slow speeds stick.

I totally agree, beautiful.

digitalintrigue 12-22-2010 04:42

The Summarit (IMHO) represents the epitome of Leica lens feel and finish.

40.5 Kenko filter + W-40.5 lens hood from the famous seller on eBay, less than 50$ ;)

maddoc 12-22-2010 05:21

I want a black IID ...
