Mine...

taskoni 09-11-2010 22:40

Hi all. I am new to this forum but I am really in love with my Leica III from 1935.
Here:

greyelm 09-12-2010 00:35

Nice set up. The lens chrome looks in very good condition. Has it been factory modified, the upper speed dial looks like a IIIf with the syncro dial underneath.

taskoni 09-12-2010 07:16

I bought it a week ago - the lens is in great condition indeed and as far as I feel the camera all works great. Will process the first test roll tomorrow. I presume it is a IIIa by the serial number but could be IIIf as you suggesting :)
This is my first leica. May be you guys will help me to identify the model better? Here's two more shots in case somebody can help :)

Regards,
b.

taskoni 09-12-2010 08:22

Great, thank you very much!
Regards,
b.

Yes originally a 1935 III, factory converted to IIIf in the ?1950s (flash syncronised). Note the engraving DBP & GMBH, these are post Third Reich. In 1935 the engraving would have been DRP. Leitz offered upgrades to their older models and many were brought up to the then current specifications. It shows the quality of the construction of these old cameras.

That's nifty! :)

I couldn't resist. My quest for the ultimate M2 ended in grabbing a good deal on ebay on a Rolleiflex 2.8F and now a Leica IIIG with 50 Elmar f2.8 and a Leciavit!!!

Can't wait to cut my TriX lead and load some to shoot my first roll.

Beeeeautiful! What's the image quality like with that lens?

coelacanth 09-22-2010 21:25

Does anyone know how rare/easy to get a II with strap lugs?? I assume they are retrofitted by Leitz/technical at some point?

loneranger 09-22-2010 21:43

which version of the summicron is that? Looks different than the ones I've seen.

Thanks! Well, it's quite soft wide open which is well known but, I like that. It's pretty sharp by 3.2-4.5.
I don't have any examples on film for you but here are two wide open from my GF-1

Thanks for the info. Let me know when you decide to sell one of yours. ;)

macmx 09-22-2010 23:33

Does someone know whether it is possible to get a lens painted black along with repainting a IIIf body? I think I saw this from a japanese shop once.

My latest acquisition.....a 1945 Jos. Schneider Kreuznach f1.5/50mm in original Leica Thread Mount seen here on one of my 1945 Leica IIIC K Grey cameras :)

Enjoy!

Anybody figure out how to use a standard or II with a neck strap? I hate wrist straps and hate cases with straps.

Send it to your favourite repairman and have the IIIc lugs fitted, if you must. Alternatively, find a donor shell from a later camera - I had a late production II that had blanking screws, fitted by the factory, where the III shell they used should have had lugs.

Leica III with a CV 21mm Color Skopar and 21/25mm metal CV finder. And a ton of rebadged Tri-X.

Gordon Coale 10-08-2010 21:10

On the left is a Zorki 1b (1949 to 1951) that had it's broken rangefinder removed. I just picked up the 1935 Leica Standard on the right. I was going to send it off to Youxin Ye but he's in China. The shutter looked and sound good so I put some film in it so see what it will do until Youxin returns. What delightful cameras! More pictures: Two Standards

Is that an original pre-wwII Leica strap??
btw lovely product picture!

john neal 10-13-2010 03:26

I have one of those straps - actually came with a Canon IVSb, but I think it's Leica. Don't know the period though...

jsrockit 10-13-2010 04:09

Man, I so want a standard, but the lack of strap lugs makes me never buy one... :(

newspaperguy 10-13-2010 04:27

Who needs lugs? (No insult intended to the Leica Users Group)

Buy or make yourself a speed-sling like this one in my gallery:

Not my style... I like a tradtional neck strap only... no wrist straps, no tripod mount weird straps, no cases, etc. :(

Could someone give me a clue please ?

Many thanks

I've tried to copy and paste the link of the picture inside my computer into the INSERT IMAGE but no success.
I've also posted the picture on my Flickr page and copy that link to the "insert image" window > no luck :(

Here is the link if someone want to try to post the picture :

Two options:

Do what the picture shows and simply paste the Flickr BBCode in the message, or switch to 'Advanced Mode' when replying and use the paperclip button to add a picture, click the link after upload and insert the attachment address as a picture.

I couldn't get this to work with Firefox. Works with Safari, though.

Melvin 10-16-2010 17:56

BTW, what's with the dime?

Hi all,

Thanks for your help about posting pictures. It is Sunday morning here and after I have cleared a few "On the list home tasks" I will relax on RFF and make a few attemps to post pictures again.
The Dime ? Duno ! I had once this coin in my pocket and its main use was to open camera battery covers. It happened one day that I had both the coin and the II F in hands and I married them :)
No worries, the glue is removable !

Finally it works, grabbing the BBcode and paste into the message.

Here is the II before it was rich (without the dime:)
