I`ve always been a fan of Leica IIF`s - I always called it the "Ladies" Leica while it doesn`t have slow speeds, now that would be chauvinistic now would`nt be?
(well makes a great prop for the ladies to hold in one of my pinup shoots)
I like the round patch of vulcanite on the front

The IIF is a bit of a "sleeper" in the LTM world, great little cameras they are!

I just picked up a very clean matching numbers IIFBD from the midwest with a f3.5 Elmar and case, I`ll post photos soon :)

Happy Shooting with your LTM

Thanks Tom. I picked it up about a month ago as a non-op from KEH. The opening curtain was sitting at a diagonal, so I new I'd be putting curtains and ribbons in it. After I finished the curtain job and CLA, I thought it would be nice to have the finish spiffed up too, so got a kit from cameraleather.
It's a nice little rig, and very quiet.
"Ladies Leica"... That's funny. Wonder how I'd look in a size 8... or size 28 would be more like it. :p

Good Light!

oHHH that`s been recovered?

Nice job!

I`m going to use the Aki-Asahi covering on my "Black Paint" project IIIC
Closest thing I can find to the original covering - What I heard is Leitz ran out of their older style covering in the early 70`s

PS:

Here is the contact information for James L. Lager of the Leica Historical Society of America. He is probabaly the foremost authority on these cameras. Perhaps you can send him the serial number and he will have more information.

Phone: 201-768-5426

I contacted James Lager two weeks ago and we had a nice email conversation. He really is a nice guy and was very interested in the details of my camera. After checking his archive, he told me that the camera has matching numbers, body and lens were both delivered to the Wehrmacht in Berlin at the same day back in 1944 and are together since then!

I decided to sell the camera, she's up for auction on Nov. 10th in Frankfurt Germany. The catalogue will be online around Oct. 10th: http://www.photographica-auctionen.de/eng/index.asp

Yes I can see it! That finder is LARGE! I thought mine was a little unwieldy.

raid 10-13-2007 06:37

What is your finder? It looks larger than a regular finder.

photobizzz 10-13-2007 23:02

It it a TOC universal viewfinder (similar to Nikon Varifocal)
It covers 28,35,50,73,90,105,135. It was made in Japan and was sold as an alternative to the Nikon/Nippon external finder. I love it because it is so bright, even at 135. It also has a parralax correction dial. I got it for $135. The Nikon/TEWE finders alwasys go for too much.

The extra brightness is definitely an important factor.

I have one TEWE finder [35mm-135mm], but I did not know that it is costly to get. My FSU multiple finder [28mm-135mm] has been my finder with the most use lately. It looks cool too.

Nikon finders are too expensive for me.

and the Summaron 3.5 you can't see

It's my 'user', bought in 1982 and active since.

Just back from a CLA and re-finishing by Peter at CRR. Sweet as a nut.

All it needs now is a few more years of good usage.

Apologies for the pictures which do not do Peter's work justice. I wanted to take some photos quickly while the camera is still unmarked and my son has made off with tripod and lights.

It looked so lovely sitting on the back seat of my car, I just had to take a shot of it!

Leica III (#166783) that I've had for 20 years, VIOOH finder, a Haber & Fink Turret, 90mm f/4 Elmar, 50mm f/2 Summar, and 35mm f/4.5 Steinheil.

Who needs only one male compensation device when you can have three?

Well, it's here... my IIIf bought from an RFF member several months ago, and hand-carried to me from Michigan to Jerusalem, by a dear friend. It is so beautiful, I've got to more pix of it to do it justice. Very clean and in pristine condition, the IIIf deserves to be used. That's a J8 on it in the Thumbnail, collimated to the Leica standard.

Ok, here's a Leica IIIF with a Leicavit, a 3.5cm/f3.5 Elmar with a 21mm screw-in skylight filter and a self-timer gadget...

Anyone want to sell a Leica case [for the Leicavit] with the cut-out on the bottom?

Ron (Netherlands) 11-08-2007 08:16

Hi Vince, I especially like the 'Mickey Mouse' lens (the Steinheil) which I have also in my collection. Do you have any background info on that lens (e.g. when was it made and for what camera)?
thanks
Ron

Newly arrived Summitar on my IIIf.
Just found out that the classic 12571 hood fits this set so much better than the "official" folding box of the Summitar.

Hey Ron -- sorry for not having noticed your question sooner. That Steinheil lens on the Haber&Fink turret has been in my accumulation for about 20 years. I think I bought it at a camera show in Toronto for about $ 50.00 -- I'd suspect that it's late 1940's or early 1950's, judging by the finish of the lens, and its similarity to other Steinheil lenses I have for Exakta. It's a Leica screwmount, so I suppose it was meant for a Leica. I know that Steinheil made a camera called a Casca, but I don't think it had a Leica screwmount. Decent second tier lenses that aren't expensive (the ones for my Exaktas are awesome!), and the quality that comes out of this one is pretty good, though it's only a f/4.5 in speed. Plus, this is the only wide lens that I have which will work on the turret contraption.

My regards to the Netherlands....I hope to be living there soon!

He Vince, Thanks for youre responce. I only have seen this lens once, offered on *bay I believe by Arsenal. They had priced the lens at about Euro 400 so way to high. There is however a difference to our lenses: it had the inscription "Tower". If you look to Tower camera´s of the early fifties, they sometimes seem to be offered with Steinheil lenses: perhaps Steinheil had a deal with Sears who produced the Tower cameras.
Hope you will have a nice stay in the Netherlands: anyway let me know if you're going to live in or near The Hague, in that case we could easily meet some time.

Vince Lupo 11-22-2007 01:57

Our hope is to be living in Dordrecht by mid 2009 (though there is that small matter of the job thing). I'm hoping to build my freelance photography business in the Netherlands, but am trying to assess the situation over there before dropping all that I've built over here and starting all over again in a new country. The other alternative would be a job with a company which would encompass my three areas of interest (Food, People, Architectural Interiors/Exteriors). Maybe a job with Royal Ahold????

As far as the lens goes, I'll check that out regarding Tower -- this is only one of a few non-Leitz lenses that I have for my screwmount Leica's.

I have a few Netherlands shots in my Critique Forum thread if you're intrested....

Thanks!

Hi Tom, For lack of a better word, "Holy ****" what a great pickup. Please post some images taken with this beauty.
By the way where do you get this from?

sfb_dot_com 12-06-2007 09:28

My Leica III

1 Attachment(s)
Here's my recently acquired III, nice and tidy, complete with Summar. All seems to work well, although preliminary results tend to show plenty of 'glow' (ie flare) Still for a camera dating from 1934 it's pretty sharp. And it still feels like a precision tool, crafted rather than constructed. It's with me all the time, and I'm finding the focussing good, better than a SLR under some circumstances. I know it's not the greatest picture ever, but hey I did use a DSLR for that!

Next purchase is a 35mm lens...

Andy

To make a long story short, it came from a private sale, from another Photographer who had it given to him 35 years ago from his Mother In Law, it had been bought at a Church benefit's auction in the 1960`s.......yes and IIFBD is quite uncommon *the "sleeper" Leica* collectable with only 8,400 ever made in 1951 and 52 only

.....needless to say, it`s hardly ever been used, but and here comes the but, the curtains and viewfinder are bad, but nothing that Youxin Ye can`t fix and fix he will be doing soon, then it will be almost like new

:)

Tom

PS: It has the original case, 50 Elmar with front cap and flash unit, I just picked up a era correct FISON shade for it on evilbay as well, very happy!!!!

An Early Christmas : Look what just came in the mail.......f1.4 Nikkor SC 50mm in LTM

After a 4 month search I finally found a f1.4 Nikkor SC 50mm lens that`s literally Flawless Mint/Mint Minus condition with BOTH caps and the rare full chrome hood, it just arrived here from NY a few hours ago - (the previous owner also had the lens CLA`d by Sherry K, so it`s is as new) -
lens was from a private sale

Here`s a couple of shots with the lens in it`s glory on my Non K stamped 1945 "Kugellager" ball bearing shutter Leica IIIC - also in the photo is a Canon f1.5 50mm which will be used on this camera for yet another TEST featuring these two legendary lenses, which I will shoot in some PinUp styles with the next available model, I will post a new thread "Canon vs Nikkor" with photos in the LTM copies section soon!

Enjoy!

Tom

dingowarlord 12-07-2007 11:05

That is an awesome looking lens Tom. I must tell you, I have 2 M6's and I'm craving a LTM. Their Cool factor is of the charts. My problem would be which should I go for a ii a 111f or g. let me stop before I lose it.

Enjoy it Tom, Show us some Picks.
