Frank, I was meant to meet her on tuesday, but now its wednesday. Tomorrow I'll be trying to shoot a test roll through the Leica instead, to see whether I can pull myself away from the Contax II :D
I'll let everyone know if my fan is a hairy bald truck driver called barry, on wednesday night I hope ;) |
What? I missed this story.

EDIT: Just ordered my first xmas present - nice and rough Summar f/2 from mw classic. Hopefully it wasn't already sold. It'll go on the Leica Standard (yes, a Summar was cheaper than an Elmar!) |

I started reading the LTM part of the forum a few weeks ago, and lo and behold: a IIIc and a IIIg have joined the M's. I blame this thread, so I'll show off mine:

Welcome to RFF MizBrown! Excellent reward for your labour. Do you have any images to post made with that Summitar? It's an interesting lens.

Here are two shot on print film. I've got some shot on Tri-X but my scans aren't that good.

I am Viewer Nr. 21,000. Congratulations, Rich.
The old Leica cameras grow on you. I also have a Leica IIIc which I find quite similar to the Canon IVsb. Raid |

A few week I've been given this Leica Ia-I looks awfull ans is screaming for a CLA!
Interesting to me is that I know a little bit of it's history: it was in use at the University of Wageningen before WW2. |

Welcome to RFF timd! I can relate to your "childhood ambition." It only took me 40 years to get my Leica! Anyway, great looking Barnack there. Enjoy!
|
Welcome here Timd! Love your IIIa, it's a beautifully compact rf, yet a 70 yo marvel of mechanic!

DAG may have a replacement rf ring for the one missing on yours.. |
My leica that I picked up today at a second hand store. There is a huge scratch over where it says "leica".
I was not happy about it till I asked, "how much"? The lady says to me $80.00, I then asked if she would take $50.00. She said yes. so now I have my 3C with a big scratched out Leica on it. Everything is really clear on it a very functional. all the speeds seem accurate, and the rangefinder is very clear too. Dosen't even seem out of alignment. Shutter curtain is pristine as well. No cracks on the coverings either. very little ware at all. I wonder why some one would scratch it out? it just makes no sense at all. The lens is a Sumitar 5 cm 1:2. The ap ring is a little tight to turn but quite useable. and there is no fogging or seperation either. Chrystal clear, with no scratches at all on the glass. |
You lucky sod!!
Maybe the scratched out Leica was due to the age when it was first used. Possibly a photographer concious of anti-german feelings from WWII-era. Maybe so that someone wouldn't steal it, since it looks so damn unhealthy with that scratching! Who knows. No matter. You picked up a bargain!!! |
Some added scratches, plus a flash synch? You should take it back and let me know the address of this place.

Sometimes, when a product was imported privately, US Customs would force the owner to scratch out the brand name because the rights to distribute that brand in the US belonged exclusively to someone else.

I had always assumed that it went in for a CLA, and whoever was doing the job was careless with his/her spanner wrench and had scratched the bejesus out of the Ernst Leitz name, and had painted over it. Not quite sure what the reasoning would be behind yours, though. |
