+1 for the CameraQuest M3/M2 Rewind Lever
 

I just got mine today; it's perfect and worth every penny of the already reasonable price. I've tried older versions and the current Leica version, returning or selling all of them. This one will stay.

That's nice, but there's no price listed on the web page. How much did you pay for it?

It works and looks great- I paid $99.00, direct from Stephen, for mine.

it was $99 plus shipping.

Take note this version is only for the M1/M2/M3 - not the modern MP.

Although due to top plate variations they will also fit
SOME of the modern MP's, but not all.

A 3rd version is in the works for the modern MP.

A few the experimental black paint rewinds were produced, and sold. it turned out not to be practical to produce them in black paint.

After about two weeks with my rewind levers, I can only reaffirm that these are great. The time to rewind film is at least cut in half; very useful for street shooting or events that require moments not to be missed.

How much easier are these to use/ handle/grip vs the Leica rewind ? I found the Leica version hard to hold and wind so if these are MUCH better....

There's more to grip on these than the Leica version, but because the rewind of the M3/M2/MP is vertical (perpendicular) to the camera top plate instead of at a (45°?) angle (like the M4/M6/M7) they will never be as easy to rewind no matter the attachment. Ultimately it's about how you hold the camera when rewinding, but I do find these much better than the Leica version and just as well made

judging by the photos, the knob does seem to be more substantial and easier to grip, something I found very difficult with the OEM version.

Might have to get some hobby paint so it'll be a closer match to my bp MP ;)

They're also offered in black chrome and brass, but painting one might be a good way to give the look you prefer.

here is the black chrome version, just got it in the mail from steph, on my new to me M2 black repaint. rewind a roll. so much faster!!!

im interested but is there any chance of getting crank-rash on your M from these ?

I haven't had any such issue, but there can be differences in the distance between the rewind knob and the top plate.

What's crank-rash? Is that the scratches you get on the top plate where the crank may come into contact?

My M6 rewinding has a somewhat underengineered feeling. Small tricky to hold and wind, and it has marks on the rewind crank from flipping over and being "cut" by the rewind housing, and around the full circumference of the rewind knob. The marking is evident from just 30 films and looks to get worse.

Maybe my rewind mechanism isn't set/installed properly??
