Differences between Elmar and Elmax?

Hello fellow LTM lovers,

found a listing on eBay where a seller claims that his nickel Elmar (with rather specific features) is in fact an Elmax that was factory-converted to an exchangeable Elmar lens. eBay listing # 261219287068.

His claims: the Elmax is a shorter design than the Elmar, and the Elmax has 5 lens elements. In which case: how long is an extended Elmar anyway, and how many lens elements does an Elmar have?

I am the owner of a lens that is identical to the lens he lists: 11 o'clock, nickel, unnumbered, uncoated, non-infinity lock, lens flange diameter smaller than the lens mount on the camera. It has five reflections when turned towards a light source, so it might have 5 elements, right?

Could my lens be a factory-converted Elmax too?

There's been a lot of discussion on the changes at Flickr and most are harsh and highly critical of them. But for me, I kinda like how my stream looks. It's a benefit to have a large number of images for others to see. I will be editing these down as now I want only my best to be shown prominently.

And to be able to go to someone else's steam and quickly get a sense of their style is very nice.

I don't mind the price increase and might just go to a free account anyway. The only thing a paid account lacks is that I not only want to hide ads, but I don't want others to see ads in my stream. This might be the thing that no one talks about that is actually worthy of criticism. I do not want ads to be shown and associated with my presence on Flickr.

But as far as the UI changes go, I'm happy about them and wish they came about sooner.

Instead of putting it on ebay, I'd rather just give it to someone here. This board has helped me out a lot!

It is a Ninca KINGKONG II. Anti-fingerprint optical glass protector. I have the same one for my xpro and it works great. It is all black around the edge with a tiny Nicna logo on the bottom.

Any takers? Maybe you could paypal me a couple bucks for shipping.
The images, which were to be on public display, were pulled at the last minute. The article linked above contains a gallery of 34 images that have been pulled. There is no mention in the article whether organisers considered an alternative venue for the images deemed too confronting for public consumption.

hi everyone,

i recently received a contax g2 and have been having some issues with it. i wanted to see if anyone else on the forum has had a similar experience and if so what i might expect to pay in repairs.

i received the camera nearly new, in its box. i believe the camera had one roll run through it when it was first bought in the '90s but has since sat idle. the camera looked perfect when i received it.

i shot my first test roll with the amazing 21mm mounted to the g2. i alternately use the 21 on a modified g1 body. it is an absolutely amazing lens and completely lives up to the hype around it but that is for another thread.

my first roll came out a little odd. about 10 of the 37 images were blurry. i chalked it up to user error and figured i probably drank too much coffee. now i am on my third roll with the camera and the issue is getting worse. the second roll contained about 15 blurry images. and the third roll is almost all blurry images. (i have swapped batteries out for new ones between the second and third rolls.) please take a look at the attached samples and let me know your thoughts if you have run into this before.

from looking at the images i believe the issue has to do with the film transport. it looks to me like either the pressure plate is not holding the film in place or the film is running through the camera to quickly (while the shutter is open.)

i would really appreciate any help or advice on this. thanks!

Flickr ... a good thing out of a bad ... the one positive thing has come out of the changes Flickr have made.

They've prompted me to really evaluate how it presents both my stuff and the quality of the online stuff itself ... so after finding the best looking site I could Ipernity, on Joe's recommendation btw, I'm now busy populating it with strictly edited photos.

I'm pleased with the results, it's already looking much better than Flicker's new ghastly layout ... and only has my best photos on there.

If you have time take a look and let me have any feedback, or if you're already on Ipernity feel free to add me as a contact :)

I've had my X100 for 2 years now and have been working it very hard with daily use. Now it's very tired. It was sent back for VF shutter failure which Fuji fixed extremely quickly and now the strap eyelets have worn through. I have my camera suspended upside down now using the tripod socket to secure a strap and I don't like it at all.

Fuji have said I will need to send it in to determine whether or not they'll fix it at their cost which I think they should as I gather it's a known issue.

In any case, I'm now going to pull away from the X series cameras and consider a pre-owned Leica M8 or 8.2 system if I can find one when I can get the dosh together.

It has been a great ride with the X100 as it produces sumptuous files and I've always found it very responsive indeed and I've had fun using its video facility even in a professional capacity. Unfortunately, the Fujis are just not durable enough for me. I need seriously robust cameras.

In the mean time I'll return to my pro Nikon system of D200s and my diminutive Olympus for video at 720p. The sweet thing about the D200 is the sensor. It renders skin beautifully and is film like in nature. That's what I like most about ccd. The Nikon is tough as nails and very, very fast. Unfortunately, it's also HUGE.

Have any among you experienced strap eyelet failure on your X100 cameras and if so, did Fuji repair it and charge?

- Paul.
I have no problem focusing through the rangefinder but it always appear slightly double vertically when I look through the finder.
Here are my questions:

1. What is the name of this problem? A vertical misalignment? Is it common?
2. Does it have any impact on the quality of pictures?
3. Is there a quick fix for that?

I need a compact 35mm/40mm. My preference is actually 40mm, 35mm, and then 50mm. I don't need anything faster than f2.8 and I must focus closely (0.7/0.8m). Budget is less than $1k

choices:
40mm f2.8 Sonnar
40mm f2.0 Summicron
35mm f2.8 Summaron (ungoggled)
35mm f2.8 Biogon

That is what I can think of at the top of my head. I'm looking for something small, high quality, and preferably with 39mm filter threads.

Now the Summaron probably sports the best build but it is also more costly...how is the build on the other three? are they comparable to one another? All focus closely right?

I'm not going to get into bokeh or sharpness as I figured that they are all "sufficient" and I am not religious about either, not for 35mm atleast. I just want a small/pragmatic outfit because I find my current lenses too big and bulky.
