Also, there's a button on the back next to the PC socket: is this the rewind button (I'd try it, but I've got film in the camera)?

This site is home to lots of folks who treasure "old" film cameras. However, who else out there enjoys keeping digital cameras for a long time or buying "obsolete" ones? There are plenty of reasons to do so, whether to save money, resist consumerism, avoid feature bloat, have gear you're not afraid of breaking/losing, or simply for the thrill of finding diamonds in the rough. Who else feels similarly, and why did you choose to keep/buy your old digital camera?

As an example...my oldest digicam that I still use frequently is a Panasonic Lumix FZ7. I bought it new in 2006, so it's almost 7 years old. It still works perfectly. I spent years shooting it on P mode, and switched to M mode a couple of years ago, and for the last couple of years, I've used it permanently at the 36mm equivalent setting. It's unusable above ISO 400, and the image quality even at ISO 100 is nothing like that of any of my DSLRs, but it's a good little camera.

Hi guys,

I recently bought a Yashica Electro GT. I've replaced the POD (I think I did it correctly) and adjusted the shutter rods but I'm still seem to be stuck at 1/500 shutter speed no matter what (in Bulb, Auto, Flash). The battery test lights up and so do the under/over exposure areas so I don't think it's a batter issue. Strange thing, when I use the timer the shutter goes off at the correct speed! (including bulb) Would anyone know what the issue could be? Perhaps still POD?

Thanks,

Hey guys! I've been shooting with my new Zorki Мир (that I bought from Fedka), and I love it so far. The only problem I have is with the rewind knob/collar around the shutter button. If I throw the camera in my bag, it knocks the knob just enough to make the advance knob spin endlessly (and so my frame counter is made irrelevant).

When I do manage to finish a roll, I turn the little rewind collar from "Д" to "П" so that I can rewind the film. The problem is that sometimes that collar seems to get stuck on П, and it's hard to turn back to Д. I've tried tightening and loosening the screw on the collar: too loose, and it's too easy for the camera to end up on П accidentally; too tight, and it gets stuck on П and I end up having to twist way too hard to go back to Д.

Have any of you had this problem? How'd you fix it?

Possible to travel with Plustek 8100?

I am looking at getting a Plustek 8100. I will be going to Norway next week (where I'm from) and could either buy it there and bring it on plane (?) with me back to France, OR just buy it in France.

The price is somewhat the same. The advantage of buying it in France is obviously convenience. The advantage of buying it in Norway is:

"the 5-year warranty period under the Norwegian Consumer Purchase Act which applies to all goods made for a lifetime significantly longer than 2 years. The lifetime of products must be assessed individually.
However, most consumer electronics, including mobile phones, are covered by the 5-year warranty
period. For products with a shorter expected lifetime, a warranty period of 2 years applies, similar to other European jurisdictions."

So the question is, would any of you, who owns the scanner, say that it's possible to travel with? Would it fit in carry on and what about x-ray machines? Any first hand experience would be great!

Thanks

Differences between Elmar and Elmax?

Hello fellow LTM lovers,

found a listing on eBay where a seller claims that his nickel Elmar (with rather specific features) is in fact an Elmax that was factory-converted to an exchangeable Elmar lens. eBay listing # 261219287068.

His claims: the Elmax is a shorter design than the Elmar, and the Elmax has 5 lens elements. In which case: how long is an extended Elmar anyway, and how many lens elements does an Elmar have?

I am the owner of a lens that is identical to the lens he lists: 11 o'clock, nickel, unnumbered, uncoated, non-infinity lock, lens flange diameter smaller than the lens mount on the camera. It has five reflections when turned towards a light source, so it might have 5 elements, right?

Could my lens be a factory-converted Elmax too?

There's been a lot of discussion on the changes at Flickr and most are harsh and highly critical of them. But for me, I kinda like how my stream looks. It's a benefit to have a large number of images for others to see. I will be editing these down as now I want only my best to be shown prominently.

And to be able to go to someone else's steam and quickly get a sense of their style is very nice.

I don't mind the price increase and might just go to a free account anyway. The only thing a paid account lacks is that I not only want to hide ads, but I don't want others to see ads in my stream. This might be the thing that no one talks about that is actually worthy of criticism. I do not want ads to be shown and associated with my presence on Flickr.

But as far as the UI changes go, I'm happy about them and wish they came about sooner.

Instead of putting it on ebay, I'd rather just give it to someone here. This board has helped me out a lot!
It is a Ninca KINGKONG II. Anti-fingerprint optical glass protector. I have the same one for my xpro and it works great. It is all black around the edge with a tiny Nicna logo on the bottom.
Any takers? Maybe you could paypal me a couple bucks for shipping.

hi everyone,

i recently received a contax g2 and have been having some issues with it. i wanted to see if anyone else on the forum has had a similar experience and if so what i might expect to pay in repairs.

i received the camera nearly new, in its box. i believe the camera had one roll run through it when it was first bought in the '90s but has since sat idle. the camera looked perfect when i received it.

i shot my first test roll with the amazing 21mm mounted to the g2. i alternately use the 21 on a modified g1 body. it is an absolutely amazing lens and completely lives up to the hype around it but that is for another thread.

my first roll came out a little odd. about 10 of the 37 images were blurry. i chalked it up to user error and figured i probably drank too much coffee. now i am on my third roll with the camera and the issue is getting worse. the second roll contained about 15 blurry images. and the third roll is almost all blurry images. (i have swapped batteries out for new ones between the second and third rolls.) please take a look at the attached samples and let me know your thoughts if you have run into this before.

from looking at the images i believe the issue has to do with the film transport. it looks to me like either the pressure plate is not holding the film in place or the film is running through the camera to quickly (while the shutter is open.)

i would really appreciate any help or advice on this. thanks!
