Hi again everybody,

So here is the promised thread about our $40 (everything included) camera challenge contenders. In this thread we can all post our acquisitions. In order to make it fun, post a photo of the camera you bought, a link to the auction (or a screenshot) or website you bought it from.

Also required is a photograph you took with your acquisition. The honor system rules here, so don't post a photo taken with your M3 and tell us it's coming from the Brownie Hawkeye you just got :)

I have not received my camera, yet, and I guess many others are in the same boat, so this thread will be open for at least another two weeks.

The more people participate, the more fun it will be.

After that I will post a poll and we can all vote for who got the best/most fun deal.

For everybody that does not know what I'm talking about or what the rules are, here is the original thread:

http://www.rangefinderforum.com/foru...d.php?t=132625

Here the main rules again:
1. It has to be a film camera
2. It can't be an SLR
3. It has to take photos, so it can't be totally broken
4. It can't be an autofocus camera
5. The camera has to be $40 or less including shipping, taxes etc.

Cheers!

Hi all,
Trying once and for all to sort out a lens cap for my 3.5F.

The original Rollei caps are hideously expensive and even the aftermarket ones are a bit steep. Additionally, I have a UV filter mounted permanently on the taking lens, which makes the standard caps impossible.

The best solution I can think of is a separate cap for each lens - would this work? I don't have any small caps to hand to try for sure.

Any suggestions/experiences on what to do? I know I could take the UV filter off but that's a bit of a faff everytime.

Hello all,

I'm just getting back into FSU kit after foolishly selling my Kiev 4A. I just bought a Fed 2 which I'm very excited about.

Anyway, I have a black Jupiter-8 which works fine, but the aperture ring is misaligned a few mm to the left. This means that at maximum aperture the marker is just to the right of the f/2.0 marker and at minimum aperture the marker is on f/16 rather than f/22.

Would it be a mammoth task to fix? To be honest I don't like how the front element turns when focusing or how loose the aperture ring is, so might swap it for a silver model.

Thanks all!

I want something longer and so I am looking into many different options but .....

Is there some sort of viewfinder attachment for 120 SLR's? I shoot available light so I need to use slow shutter speeds and hence MLU is a necessity for me. However, I really like to keep my sight on the subject at all times, especially upon release of the shutter so I'm wondering if such a device exists. There are plenty of niched accessories for Rolleiflex TLRs so maybe something exists for Hasselblad/Rolleiflex SL66/etc.

Else, there are mutars, tele-rollei's, and mamiya tlrs.

Maybe a little off topic but I have also considered LF (4x5 or 8x10) but the same issue arises but I believe it is common for some models to have viewfinder attachments right? As many are rangefinders. I would focus with the groundglass and then switch to the viewfinder upon releasing the shutter.

I love my Flex but I want something a bit longer...I know that these are not the best solution as adding a piece of glass dilutes the image quality.

ofcourse there are plenty of other alternatives but what is the experience with these things? Is the drop in image quality noticeable? I don't find a difference with rolleinar's but I've never looked very hard either.

I have just come into possession of a really pretty IIIg, from another RfF member. I had never held one before, and I like its features.

When the camera arrived, I noticed that the fast shutter speed dial was way out of alignment -- the dial appeared to be at least 1/4 rotation off from lining up with the correct speeds.

I figured that maybe the three grub screws securing the dial maybe were loose, or perhaps the dial had been removed and reinstalled hastily. So I loosened the screws, aligned it properly and tightened up the screws.

But the problem resurfaced immediately. Each release of the shutter caused the dial to drift off out of alignment -- no doubt because of the momentum from the spinning of the dial when the shutter is released, followed by sudden cessation of rotation.

Removing the dial entirely was a surprise -- there is only a very thin flange that the dial rests on, and the grub screws don't actually engage head on with the flange surface but rather against a beveled edge of the flange. If the screws' pointed ends were able to dig into the surface, there might be no drifting at all. Seems like a design flaw to me! But I've never heard of this problem before with this camera, or with any Barnack Leica, for that matter. Suggestions? Maybe the grub screws need to be slightly longer?

I should emphasize that the seller is willing to stand behind this, and it may require sending this off to the guy who CLA'd it last year to make it right. But before doing anything further, I wanted to see whether others had encountered the problem, and how they cured it. Thanks.

So I've been reading up on replacing selenium cells (in cameras and meters) with silicon photodiodes.

Problem is, I keep seeing references to how it's biased heavily towards infrared/visible red.

If I were to perform the modification, I'd like the spectral response to be at least somewhat accurate.
Does anyone know the exact characteristics of the 'blue' filter used over the cells? Any spectral sensitivity experts out there like to hazard a guess?

THIS link (under 'Zenit Repair') states that this kind of cell works in lots of light conditions unfiltered. Should I just stop worrying and jump in?

Thanks for any input
