This set is from the Wolf's Lair - Hitler's base of operations in Poland (then reclaimed as East Prussia). It was mostly destroyed as the Russians advanced but it is still an impressive monument to the times. For history buffs it is where the bomb assassination attempt was made by Staff Officer Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg in 1944.
The weather was not good but that added to the atmosphere.

so a leica store is opening in los angeles this week. i haven't looked up the square footage, but i get the sense that it'll be one of the larger ones, if not the largest; it'll be 2 stories, and it's not part of a preexisting camera store. i'm looking forward to visiting after the grand opening. :)

i was about to ask what the deal with all of these leica stores was, but an article from businessweek turned up on google:

http://www.businessweek.com/articles...so-many-stores

aside from acknowledging that the stores are high-risk, and schopf wouldn't say how much the stores cost, there doesn't seem to be much info in it. can anyone read something interesting between the lines?

if you've been to a leica store, what has your experience been? any snobbish customer service? are the leica akademie classes challenging? are the exhibits exciting or are they the same old stuff?

"This isn’t the first time BuzzFeed has been on the receiving end of a massive copyright infringement lawsuit. Last October, the website was sued for $1.3 million for publishing 9 celebrity photos without permission.

Hello

I bought a Mamiya 6 recently. It is in good condition, and it has worked without flaw since I bought it two weeks ago, but today I tried to use it with flash and encountered some problems. The hotshoe wouldn't fire either of my flashes (a Yongnuo 560III and a Contax TLA200) and neither would the synch port. Additionally, I tried to fire a wireless trigger, and I also tried using a PC to hotshoe adapter. In short, I have tried every variation I can think of but could not get a response.

It seems very peculiar to me that neither hotshoe nor PC are working. Otherwise, the camera is in very good condition. The hotshoe and synch port are clean. The contacts on the lens are clean. All other electronics within the camera are operational (LED display and light meter).

I've seen a few posts by people in Mamiya 7 forums who've encountered this problem. I wonder if anyone has found a solution.

Cheers,

David

We've got multiple D700s, primes, flashes, etc, that we bought for weddings. We're shutting the biz down after our remaining two weddings. We're having a baby early next year. I'm selling all the DSLR gear and buying something simple and cheap for a few reasons:

1. Having expensive stuff makes me uncomfortable. Our D700s are the most expensive things we own (our cars cost less) besides our house. It also seems silly to buy something expensive when I'm using it personally rather than professionally.

2. I'm more likely to take a cheaper camera everywhere, since it's not such a big deal if I break or misplace it; the lack of a need to protect it is freeing.

3. I only shoot digital, and I don't fancy the idea of buying a camera that loses half of its value in a year or two. Starting from a cheaper or used camera means less money is lost, which makes me happy.

Now that you know where I'm coming from...

Who else enjoys using cheap or simple cameras for most daily photography? And if so, what do you use and why?

It should be as simple as putting the batteries in the correct way and turning the switch on, yes? I would've expected to see the display in the viewfinder as indicated in the manual. It's loaded with film and the lens is attached correctly.
