I have a diminitive OM and Nikon system and I want a fast 50mm. I'm thinking about the Zuiko 50mm f1.2 and Nikon 50mm f1.2 but since many film SLRs are cheap...I'm open to other lenses too. I'm also thinking about the 50mm f1.1 Nokton (for RF)...since that is a RF design and relatively new, does anyone know if it is leaps and bounds better than an SLR lens? I'm still weighing the pros and cons of an SLR or RF for my purpose.

If it matters I plan on using this lens for portraits, but I want subject isolation at a distance. (I'm thinking 8-10 feet or so). I'm happy with the DOF (or lack of) of f2 lenses when up close but I prefer to use larger apertures at further distances.

My budget is roughly $500 and up to $1000 tops but I'd prefer to spend less (who wouldn't?). I'd prefer a 50mm but I may stretch it to 58mm. Any experiences?

Hi,

Recently I started getting back into film, and many thanks to everyone here even though I haven't asked a question yet (thank you search function!). I'll post some of my first attempts once my scanner arrives!

Now I have a few rolls developed and sleeved, and looking into the future I see a nightmare coming! At the moment, I put a bit of paper in a sleeve with dev times and the like to keep a record, but its easy to forget when I shot that roll, it may be a month between shooting and developing.

Does anyone write the date (or anything else) on the film leader before loading it in the camera? If so, what with, and does it survive developing? It'd be nice to have the date permanently on the negs I think.

Cheers

Here's one that I wasn't too careful with, but am intrigued by this "sprinkled salt" look on this one.
I already know this is done poorly. I'm just trying to find out what this is from, as a way of gaining a better understanding.

One of my photographic heroes is the pre-war British photojournalist J Allan Cash. He was one of the early Leica pioneers who made a living travelling the world with his camera.

The model he used at the start of his career was a Leica II with the Summar. I have a tremendous urge to get the same camera and lens to experience photography as he did. Leica IIs are common enough but it seems getting a good scratch and haze-free Summar might be difficult.

Has anyone else done a similar thing by following in the footsteps of another Barnack-wielding hero?

I picked up an as-is GSN for $2 the other day. It had some issues like a bend filter ring, some mild lens fungus and a dented hotshot. I fixed the fungus and filter ring damage (not too worried about the hotshot)

The only issue left is that the shutter is not opening all the way while firing. I disassembled the lens, cleaned the blades with Ronson and lubed the mech with oil. But I'm still having the same issues with the shutter not opening completely.

I can get them to open by putting pressure on the cams so I know its not an obstruction. I'm really out of ideas on this one.

Can anybody give me any pointers?

This set is from the Wolf's Lair - Hitler's base of operations in Poland (then reclaimed as East Prussia). It was mostly destroyed as the Russians advanced but it is still an impressive monument to the times. For history buffs it is where the bomb assassination attempt was made by Staff Officer Colonel Claus Von Stauffenberg in 1944.
The weather was not good but that added to the atmosphere.
