Well folks, I finally was able to join your ranks yesterday
When I got my Canon P in the mail! A few days ago, I received
the Canon 35mm f2.8 ltm lens I had purchased. It's the later silver/black
version. Both Ebay grabs... This is my second rangefinder/film camera
the first one being an Argus C44 (Rest in peace). I think my next
purchase (in camera gear) will be a sharp/contrasty 50mm... Any recommendations?

I know I've got a long way to go as far as getting exposures right
and framing things in an interesting way, but I must admit, I'm having
fun :D

Here are two from the first roll....

In the 19th century, serious photography was frankly difficult and expensive: a minority interest. Rollfilm and then 35mm greatly broadened the appeal: after 1888, "You press the button, we do the rest" was an option.

Perhaps those who are interested in "serious" photography, defining "serious" as retaining more control than is given by "You press the button, we do the rest" are headed back to its being a minority interest. Is this necessarily unmitigatedly bad news?

I owe this thought to mwoenv who said in another thread, . . . you have to stick to what you want out of photography as the mass market churns on . . .

Anyone who is interested in seeing what photography was like in pre-Kodak days is invited to go to http://www.rogerandfrances.com/e-books.html and download (for free) "Photography for Amateurs" by T.C. Hepworth, Cassell, 1884.

EDIT: DON'T TRY THE DOWNLOAD (see post below). I have asked my web-master what to do.

I was reading on the D-Lux 6 with the super Vario Summilux 24-90mm f1.4 ~ f2.3 lens. What an incredible camera, when I found out it was based on the LX7 which is selling under 300.00 second hand. I spent a couple of hours reading on the D-Lux and the Panasonic sibling.

What I don't get is that D-Lux is highly desirable, while being identical to the Panasonic which everyone pans.

Imagine a Leica designed lens, great for available light and yet everybody yawns. If this was the R or M lens, the reaction would have been different.
Are these pretty much the same through all the versions? Chrome/black - does it matter? (I'll be using it with a VC finder.)
I hope to gather the Nikkor 50/2, 35/2.5, and 85/2 and a few VC "S" mount lenses when I want a modern look.

Seems like lately I have collected a few leather items for Leica cameras, lenses, etc. My previous eveready case (several years ago) was disintegrating so I had no qualms about what I did to make it somewhat more useful and better looking. It still lost it's strap "lug" but thankfully when I did not have the M3 attached to it. Since then, I have used dye/shoe polish/glue and brown felt to make it look better while using the half case and my own custom leather strap. It is now safe to use.

Anyone have good experience with "restoring" vintage leather, making it both better looking and lasting longer? Lexol? Other products?

With the age of these cases, it seems they are better suited for display in my Leica Cave that is slowly coming together. But I would like to take care of them without using the wrong products.

Crap, just noticed it is time to get another avatar...I now have a lens!!!

This is an old Leica M8 commercial, but it was one that enthralled me for the longest time. I decided to write a post about it because I believe this is the best camera commercial I've seen in a long time. It communicated everything what Leica needed to say about their tradition and foray into the digital world, and manages to stir the viewers' loins with its sensitive treatment and execution.
