Hello!

I once had a cheap Rolleicord that I adored, but alas, it stopped working after going through a car accident (so did the car.)

It's time to step up to a Rolleiflex and I had my eye on something in the ballpark of a 3.5E Xenotar. Really, I'm open to whatever is good. It's a tool to me, so historic interest is sort of out the window. Lens is paramount (Xenotar or Planar) and it just needs to work.. no sending it off to tweak or repair. I don't care about the meter, though. I use an incident meter 100% of the time.

I have $700 burning a hole in my pocket, but I'd be very happy to spend less :) $550 or $600 would let me buy some Tri-X!

How do these look?

KEH bargain grade - 3.5E Xenotar w/meter $665
Igor, EX+ - 3.5E Planar Type 1, CLA $575
KEH bargain grade - 3.5E Xenotar no meter $569
KEH bargain grade - 2.8E Xenotar no meter $469 (why is this one so much cheaper?
KEH bargain grade - 2.8E Planar no meter $616
KEH bargain grade - 2.8D Planar $695

To be honest, all these fine nuances wear me out. I like the shooting part of photography MUCH more! Can I tap into the vast RFF knowledge pool for some advice?

Thank you!!

I'd like to ask about your opinion what happened here?

Here's the straight scan from Vuescan:

The light: nice contrasty mid-day light on a sunny day in a shadow.
Camera: Nikon FM (recently tested all shutter speeds and they were perfect)
Film: Rollei Retro 100 (bought from maco direct, expired in 01/2012, kept in freezer, this roll was in the fridge)
Developer: Foma Rodinal R09 (newly opened for this roll, very, very faint yellowish color)
Development: 13 minutes at 20C (as per mass dev chart)
Fix: 6,5 minutes, negs look completely fixed to me, i.e. rebate is completely transparent

So, what do you think, is it underdeveloped or underexposed? The majority of the roll has this gray look to it...

Here is a link to photo rumor site where they have both the Ricoh grd and Nikon Coolpix a dxoMarked and toward the bottom the embedded utube video from camera store showing their shootout. They added the x100 as a compare but not te x100s.. Not really a fair compare since it is not the 16mp xtran sensor.. Anyway I don't look at the dxoMarked site.. So have no idea in terms of how accurate this info is to real world results. The Nikon is better only by two points in terms of overall score.

I had totally forgotten about this camera, but it looks like the guys who layed out the looks (design) of the Fuji x100 and xp1 did not.. Except for a couple of control surface difference, it looks pretty close.. To me it looks like they took a lot of the q's from the Panasonic lc1.. The camera prior to this one that it reminds me of is the contax g series (film). Anyway what do u think about the resemblance?
Below is the link to the pic from mirrorless rumor site that got my thinking.

Hi everybody,

This is the first time Iīm going to the States and there are so many things Iīd love to see that itīs gonna be hard to make a plan. I guess I feel like an american who goes to "Europe" for the first time...

So far, we (lady and me) will arrive to Los Angeles on Sept. 1st and leaving from NY on the 21st. That makes barely 3 weeks to get a feeling of what the americans are. But what to do in between we just canīt decide. The overall route is California (San Franciscoīs on the top of the list)-->Las Vegas (maybe a visit to Grand Canyon)-->Texas (where??? Iīd love to go to a rodeo and get into the texan mood so to say. Maybe a visit to San Antonio also)-->Deep South (again, where??)-->NY

Walk-pictures-a couple of museums-get to know a lot of people, thatīs more or less the plan.

We donīt drive so weīll move either flying or by bus. What do you think are the places we should NOT miss in our way to the atlantic coast??

Also, I must say this is just a part of a 3 months travel around the world so weīre really on the cheap side if you know what I mean.

You ideas and tips are more than welcome :)

I apologize to all who were offended by the recent posting of an image in the RFF gallery. It was not intended as a political or personal statement nor did it convey my approval or support of the associated tragic and unforgettable events brought about by the Nazi regime. The world suffered the loss of the potential greatness of generations of the peoples so cruelly exterminated. I intended the photograph as a study of light and form. I ask for the forgiveness of my RFF friends and anyone else who may have been offended for my lack of sensitivity. I would appreciate it if this thread is taken for what it iss and does not turn into a long battle of words.

Hello - I am thinking of getting into the rangefinder (and Leica more specifically) system. I currently shoot with a Fuji X-Pro1. Here is my plan...
I have an opportunity to purchase a Konica Hexanon 50 1.2 and have no problems using this lens on my XP1, but I would like to move over to the Leica digital system in the next couple of years. I was thinking in the mean time to purchase a Leica CL and have it as a film camera and compliment my (future) digital M camera.

I have no idea if this lens will block the viewfinder of the CL, I know that focusing at 1.2 may be an issue but my bigger concern is if this lens will even fit the CL. I know the whole point of getting the CL is to be small, but I am trying to get into the system rather inexpensively and this seems like a fun way to shoot film and get the rangefinder experience while buying lenses that will work with whatever camera I purchase in the next few years. Any body out there tried this combo, or something similar? The 50 Summilux Asph looks to be a similar size so maybe this could be a comparison????

Any and all help is appreciated, thank you in advance.

I recently purchased a 6x9 drop bed folding camera. It came with a roll film holder and two working cut film holders. The roll film holder turns out not to be 120 film size, but it appears it is for 6x7 photos. Photos below (from our friend flickr) show the roll film holder open and the previous film reel, metal no less; a 120 reel up agains the former metal reel; and a comparison of the two next to each other.

Heavily painted, apparently from the factory.

A 120 roll against the metal reel in the holder. BTW, the holder is made with slots in the reel holders, not holes for the end of the roll.

Better indication of the size difference between the metal reel and a modern 120 reel.

Anybody ever seen such a holder, or know what size film it would have taken? I was quite happy with the purchase, although I certainly don't need another 6x9 folding camera, really only wanting the cut film holders and the roll film holder. The two A.P. working holders don't fit into my Zeiss Ikon 195/3, but just do fit in my Bee Bee 6x9. Not what I had planned from the purchase. I'm hoping I can get a machine shop to make me some film inserts. Then it would have been worth it.

Another curiousity is the bag the items came in. I smalling canvas bag that just fits the camera, roll film holder, and the cut film holders.

With holder

And closed.

It sort of has a look of being military, and the seller was in the UK. Anyone seen such a bag and know what it was originally for?

Thanks for any information anyone can provide.
