I think the reason the price is higher now is perhaps due to it being a "commission" sale item. Schouten has previously had complete sets as well for a little over $20k. Of course condition and complete packaging with accessories ramp up the price too.

Nice set but it's basically a black paint M4 with an Elcan lens.

Still, I wouldn't mind it sitting in my cabinet. :D

That must be one of the most expensive pieces of used wrapping paper and box I've seen. And to think what we threw away over the Christmas holiday!

Still, at least, people will understand my post about the IIIc and IIIf label etc.

That could be partly true but the collectors always go for the rare stuff which this is.
Even though it's top dollar the "rarity" helps the collector justify the outlay (to him or herself) regardless of the potential return in the future.

But still... I bet it's an interesting lens to work with. :cool:

The KE7A is an interesting camera, The Elcan 50f2 was not a particularly good lens - it was a lower resolution lens as it was thought that the military did not ned the "bite" of a Summicron! Hence, they made a very expensive, custom lens for the camera ( remember the $600 toilet seats and the $ 100 allen-keys).
The instruction manual also outlines how to destroy the camera (using a rock) to avoid having it fall into enemy hands - and still work.
This is probably part of a batch that was found in an army warehouse some years ago - a "skid" with something like 50 of them had been "lost" in inventory.
It had better sealing for dust and water - but otherwise it was a stock M4.

This set is missing those military issue manuals that was mentioned. Missing items from a set would be minus..

Would be nice to have a compact 50mm like that Elcan.

I remember seeing at one point three mint KE7A cameras at Koh's Camera :eek:.
Classic cameras magazine once showed a picture of a prototype collapsible ELCAN 50mm f2 lens.

A lot of those manuals have fallen into the hands of ebay sellers and have been followed to the letter. ;-)
