Hello all—excited to be a part of this site! I shoot a lot of low light, and have been wanting a faster 35 lens. I'd love to buy the 35 Summilux, but money's tight, so I'm trying to decide between a Canon 35mm 1.5 or the Voigtlander 35mm 1.4. I don't mind flare, if that matters to anyone's answer.

I know this all is personal opinion, but has anyone had good/bad experiences? They're probably priced about the same, one being new, and one being used, of course.

Thanks for your help!

I'm an happy user of a canon 35\1.5 but i have spent months to find one in perfect condition with original caps and hood, and it's not been cheap...but it really value every penny spent. I think his poor reputation was about the flare problems and for the low contrast at f1.5 but i don't think it's a problem, maybe it's his signature ^__^

Anyway i have never used a CV 35\1.4 but i have the magic Nokton 35\1.2 and i love it, maybe if you love to shoot in low light you should think about it, it's not cheap we know, but the prices for the old canon are growing up every day so maybe you can find it at the same price of a used nokton.
About the experience they are of course 2 different lens with almost 50 years of evolution so it's useless to tell if one it's better than another...The Nokt it's faster, bigger, heavier, with great resistance to flare, asph lens and a color rendition really soft wide open, i love it in b\w and in color. The Canon it's little, slower (half stop?) old of course, and you have to find one with good lens or the softness and flare will make your pictures really "characteristic", however i love his vintage look and rendition, but i prefer the color negative with the canon...at the moment i use it more than my Nokt.

Just my little experience.
